Another absolute sh*t house OZ rock group, the singer is a pathetic vocalist, the overall sound is boring and non distinctive, the lyrics are sh*t house, yet these guys are idolized by wanker University students and other morons, the same morons who criticise 80's hair acts for being lyrically average, atleast we can remember the 80's members, and atleast they have record sales to prove they were more then a pinch of sh*t.

When wil the Australian public grow up and realise that our home grown stuff is sh*thouse!! if i ever cross over to triple J you have some retarted group from Melbourne or Newtown who honestly sound like they've just started playing 2 years ago, and you wonder why no one overseas rates our music:lol:

Can we please get some more decent acts over here ffs!!!! we need our local artists to learn, instead of being influenced by crap like You am I, JET etc

Australian music is crap, anyone that disagrees should look at the quality of overseas acts, i mean, when we think of great vocalists internationally we think of Coverdale, Rose, Bach, Dickisnon, Dio, Tate....yet us ( well not me thank god) rather and more inspired by Garret, Rogers..:lol:

You Am I's US breakthrough was scuppered by record companies demanding "a single", and despite having plenty of excellent songs on their #4 Record, it wasn't good enough for the Yanks, and they got dropped.

Tim Rogers is a fantastic songwriter, excellent melodies and clever lyrics that aren't smart alecy. You can hate them for all I care, but to compare them to Jet, a blatantly derivative outfit who have zero ideas of their own, is just wrong. The three big Oz bands of the 21st Century (Jet, Vines, Wolfmother) have been near carbon copies of other bands with no originality, stolen riffs and dated attitudes. At least Tim Rogers was thinking for himself.

Fair enough, i can understand people bagging Seb, but after all the guy can sing.

See, i don't see what makes Tims song writing skill any good either, listening to him, i don't see what is so great about it, just because he doesn't write typical love ballards, or catchy tunes doesn't necesarilly mean he's a good song writer, i mean, look at gunners, they released some songs with below average lyrics, but then released sons like 'come' 'estranged' which imo are lyrically brillant, songs like those cannot be beaten due to fact they were straight from the heart, and distinctive, i haven't seen anything from Tim to suggest he's a great song writer, maybe for our standards he is, but as a whole...nup nothing, i actually prefer Steve Kilbey more.

Another great songwriter. Under the influence of his own talent for a while there, but he seems to have stopped being a pompous arsehole in regards to playing his popular songs in concert so it's all good now.

I never understood why he hated The Unguarded Moment so much.

i never met the bloke, but it seems everyone has the same view as him, is it legit?

Love Unguarded Moment, and imo The Church and Ice House were two of the better Australian acts to never get the recongition they deserve.

While they were overhyped due to their singles, The Vines weren't that bad and outside of their singles showed some good variety.

doesn't matter if they were commercial, why should that make a difference? the greatest groups of all time were commerical somewhat.

Jet are sh*t....but they are certainly not indicative of Aussie music as a whole. There are some brilliant acts here, they just don't get as recognised because they aren't bland, derivative commercial whores like Jet

I don't think they all sound the same, but that's probably a taste thing more than anything. I'm not a big You Am I fan and I hate Jet with the fire of a thousand suns, but there's still some good stuff out there that sounds nothing like those bands. Karnivool is one, and there's The Butterfly Effect, Dead Letter Circus, COG, Electric Horse, Final Days of Autumn, Birds of Tokyo among quite a few that are very talented and have their own sound(s). They may not be to your particular taste, which is cool, but they're certainly a lot better than drivel like Jet

Thats the one, Birds of Tokyo, i like them actually, but they aren't exactly mainstream, i should've made that clear in the introduction, imo the mainstream OZ stuff sounds like crap and everyone sounds like oneanother, when was the last time we produced a vocialist who actually had a range to his voice, all we get is crap, JET are f**king shocking!! yet the geniuss on Triple J sperm themselves stupid like everyother garbage band we produce, why cant they be more critical!

FFS Australian music is like watching Parramatta's junior sides, we think we have plenty of talent, but actually we overrate them, and the reality is they're all Steve Witts, we need more Jarryd Haynes

Regardless of where it comes from, put the Top 40 or whatever on and pick out the half decent songs...I reckon you'd be lucky to get a handful. Everything else is pretty much whatever the vapid teenage morons decide to like that week.

Sadly, you've got to look outside the mainstream for good music these days
