Wouldn't say that...

Karnivool
The Butterfly Effect
Devolve
Parkway Drive (though I'm not a huge fan)
AC/DC
Airbourne (AC/DC lite lol but still good)

The bloke from Karnivoll (Ian Kenny I think) has got a great voice.
Birds of Tokyo are sh*te tho
You Am I are great live, never thought much of them till i saw them at homebake last year, great set and great atmosphere.
My favourite oz band is Frenzal Rhomb, although not sure they would fit rons description of 'good music.' Maybe if they wore a bit more spandex
There are some very good australian bands around however, Frenzal, The Living End were very good (and put on a good show), The Meanies, TISM were great, Parkway Drive, Children Collide have impressed me alot, The Herd are pretty damn good as well. If you ignore the sh*te like Eskimo Joe, Silverchair and Jet you'll be sweet.

RJ - Yes but those great groups usually revolutionised music in some way. Jet basically followed a formula that they knew was succesful and received accolades despite their unoriginality. If they weren't trying to be like Iggy Pop, Stevie Wright or Oasis, they were as bland as any other Aus. act.

And to be controversial, I don't believe Eskimo Joe are THAT bad. Their first two albums were solid and it wasn't until Black Fingernails, Red Whine where their music was flogged to kingdom come. Their last single isn't doing much for me either.

Eelementry - Have you heard of the Brisbane band: Dead Letter Circus?

I liked eskimo joe when they had the sweater song and ruby wednesday etc they were just another enjoyable fun band

Then they decided they wanted to be 'mature' despite still being lyrically awful and just added stadium rock-esque sh*te as their music. Cant f**kin stand them.

I really liked their first two albums, Girl was their transistion from being fun to not being fun anymore, so it combines the best of both of those, and A Song Is A City is just an album close to my heart for personal reasons. Black Fingernails was where the sh*t hit the disc.

funny... I haven't heard Jet get played on Triple J for years.

Good ol Ron showing his total lack of knowledge once again.

They get played on the same radio station that still plays bon jovi.
The station where all the crap ends up.

And where did all that crap come from?

Triple J should atleast have some sort of selection criteria when promoting a local group, some of the sh*t i've heard on the station....well that's why it's played on the station because no other station would touch the crap not even with your own dick:p

Bon Jovi=100 million album solds, countless sellout world tours:p next question:arrow:

I never liked Eskimo Joe until i heard Black fingernails Red wine, an acoustic version on Triple M a couple of weeks back, was 10 times better then the commercial release for some reason.

Give me Jet over Silverchair anyday. f**k me, that band has got to be the worst of a very bad bunch of Aussie rock bands.

I hate to sound like a Radiohead fan but perhaps you dont 'get' TISM. As the song goes TISM are sh*t, but who the f**k isnt?

As for Frenzal, personal taste i guess. I've seen them live a bunch of times, always cheap, always a great show and a helluva lot of fun.

Oh and some of the bass playing in Frenzal over the years, particularly when Lex was in the band, was supurb. Better than the Cash Rock of Birds of Tokyo.

I take it you're a Punk fan Red Bear? That's not a dig as I enjoy a healthy dose of Punk music but I take it you don't appreciate alternative or rock music?

Glad to hear I'm not the only person on these forums who can stomach EJ. Flippy, I don't know what it is about Life is a City but you're not the first person I've heard who's held the album in that regard. I found it was a great travel CD, listening to it on the way to Melbourne certainly made me pay more attention them. Sadly, I only own Black Fingernails which I bought during a more naive time and found it to be rather dull.

I haven't, no. Would they be up my alley? I'm a metalhead, essentially.

pffttt

you wouldn't even know how to find Triple J on the dial.

I laugh that you even pretend to know anything about You Am I or Frenzal Rhomb.
You are full of it Ron.

...but hey we have all seen this thread before.

Ron gets pissed...at home in bumfug nowhere with no mates and decides to start an anti Jet thread.

It was funny the first couple of times.

as for Bon Jovi , I admire the bloke for his success and the way he acts...( not in movies but in life)
His music is very predictable and boring.
He reckons he would never let Bon Jovi become a band that just plays their hits ...
They need the tap on the shoulder if that is the case then.
