Jets versus Knights at Toyota

With 90 seconds left on the clock and the scores deadlocked on 32 all, a penalty goal saw the Knights beat the Tigers last weekend in Prem/league by 34 to 32.

Whos going to the Jets/Knights game this Saturday. Knights will be tougher than the Souths pack was last weekend, so hope the boys can come back from that performance last weekend.

This game could see the Jets either in equal first place, with a real chance at the minor premiership trouphy. Or see them drop down into third and from there possibly fourth. Jeopardising any chance at having a Henson final come semi time.

Come on Jets fans. The boys need you voices on beer hill.

With the loss of Thomo, Lomu and Dumas we have lost a lot of drive in attack and defence and the other guys need to step up a few gears otherwise we will struggle

That's true Bluebag. Newcastle are enjoying a resurgence and will not be pushovers. I'm bloody nervous.

The jets have a good team named this week. Plenty of young guys starting to get the opportunity in the higher grades it seems which is good.

Will definately be out there early watching it.

Interesting although I am definately worried. The change is on then, finally.

How does Mitch BROWN go in flegg usually. Saw the Flegg team get smashed by Wests the other week at Henson. Hope this BROWN can handle the high ball.

COVELL on the wing for the Jets. Hope he lifts and gives his all instead of having sore grapes about being dropped. real worry. Could go either way, and this is an important game.

David THOMPSON. Named in the run on side for the third time since injured. Does this mean he will actually play this time around. Bloody hope so.

??????

Important game, and a team that hasnt played together ever. This could be a hammering. Am biting me fingernails already.

Lafi named as 18 tells me Thommo won't play.

I also think Covell will have a blinder. Will probably be kicker too.

Mitch Brown will be great - he will be the quickest man on the park - no question.

I'm worried too... it's about time we had a few changes

not too sure how Mitch goes... time will tell, I suppose.
He would have to go well to be promoted.

I hope he lifts as well, or else we'll just have to not bother to select him.

I hope he plays for the sake of the Jets. What kind of injury does/ did he have?

I have no fingernails left...

on the other hand I hope Merritt and Kinga have blinders.

I hope they have blinders too Nikki. They both definately deserve this chance going on their consistant form in prem/league and it is about time. Isemonger has been good last few weeks as well.

Am still worried though.

Thanks for the tip on BROWN Mr Angry. hope he goes well and handles the pressure, as feel the kicking game will be on again.

Apparently he played in the Cronulla Flegg grandfinal side. Am really nervous about this one though, as it so, so, important as to where we finish come finals time, and there is a lot of change.

Hopefully COVELL will rise to the occassion, as most of the boys being dropped have. Although it could go both ways I geuss. Frank SAMIA was probably an ex team mate of his from last season.

Frank was voted jets player of the year in ( 2002 I think ) and then went to Balmain, ( where COVELL came from ). It has been great to have FRANKIE back in a Jets jersey. However the fact that the others have not played as a team all season is some concern to me.

Will be a big game in both grades.....

Fair enough. Pity we lost Luke HESSION to Balmain though. Notice he has been playing great for them and still knows how to find the try line.

Oh well thats even worse. Back to a team that has hardly played together at all then....

Nathan Hinton
James McManus
Michael Young
Blake Tremain-Cannon
Aaron Hartmann
Dustin Cooper
Dane Campbell
Brendan Worth
Nathan Berry
Jesse Royal
Kurt Hancock ©
Blake Mueller
Todd Maddison
INTERCHANGE

Matthew White
Matthew Bartlett
Nathan McLoughlin
Daniel Spiteri
David Seage
Cooper at 5/8 will be interesting. The big guy loves to run into the line from fullback, so he should be a good running 5/8.
Seage will probably get a run if fit, so Hinton might go to the wing and Hartman might drop back to Flegg.
That is about our strongest forward pack of the season.

Heres the Knights lineup for saturday guys and gals. Interesting to see Dustin COOPER in the lineup for those that saw him play several games for the Jets last season.

Bit of a worry with them advertising their strongest forward pack this season, when we have a team with L platers in it.

Come on Jets. You can still do it though......

Nathan Hinton - A quality 20 year old fullback who was the best player in our Flegg side last year and has been excellent all year as fullback in PL.
James McManus - a 20 year old having about his 10th game of PL after a great start to the season in Flegg. He has scored several tries in PL.
Michael Young - A very solid defender who played about 10 games of firstgrade last year and the year before. Offers very little in attack.
Blake Tremain-Cannon - 21 year old having his first season in PL. Not really setting the world on fire.
Aaron Hartmann - 19 year old having his second game of PL. He is a big kid, and has good speed, but he doesn't get involved enough.
Dustin Cooper - Lots of firstgrade experience for Melbourne and for Newcastle earlier this year, but not at 5/8. A strong attacking player and solid defender.
Dane Campbell - first season at the Knights. This 21 year old played for Qld in several age teams and was the halfback in the winning side in the Qld cup last season. He has already played several games of firstgrade and done well.
Brendan Worth - 21 year old prop with two years of PL experience and 3 or 4 games of firstgrade behind him.
Nathan Berry - an outstanding prospect at hooker with about 15 games of PL behind him now. He was a champion at Flegg level and is getting better every game in PL.
Jesse Royal - big prop in his first season at the Knights after signing from Penrith. 21 year old.
Kurt Hancock © - former Norths player. about 24 years old and has played in France and for NSW residents last year, as well as having one game of firstgrade this year.
Blake Mueller - workaholic forward who has been in and out of firstgrade for the past two seasons. A bit small for firstgrade, but great at this level.
Todd Maddison - Just returned from NSW residents side. Player of the year in the Newcastle comp last season, and getting better and better this year.
INTERCHANGE

Matthew White - a 20 year old 110kg prop who had some great games in firstgrade at the start of the season. He is on the bench as an impact player and is one of the hardest running forwards at the club.
Matthew Bartlett - a 23 year old prop with a couple of seasons of PL behind him. Honest player, but nothing special.
Nathan McLoughlin - second row or centre. 21 year old in second season of PL.
Daniel Spiteri - try scoreing wizard and bench hooker. He will only play for 20 or 30 minutes, but scores nearly every game.
David Seage - firstgrade fullback coming back from injury again. He is about 25 and had a long career in the Qld cup where he was seen as a more dangerous attacking player than Billy Slater. He made an instant impact at the Knights as star fullback in firstgrade, but has suffered several injuries since.

The only really decent back in the starting lineup is Hinton - although McManus has the right stuff and will make an impact soon. If Seage plays he will be the best back on the field in attack, and sound in defence.

The halves have been average in recent weeks since Mullen went up to firstgrade. Campbell is still finding his feet a bit. Cooper is the latest to be tried at 5/8, and he could work out.

The forwards are a good blend of excellent kids and hardheaded journeymen.

I'd rate the backs 6/10, or 7/10 if Seage plays.
The halves 6/10.
The forwards 8/10.

Thanks for the write up Roopy. Was much appreciated. This will be a good game, and an important one for both clubs.

See ya's at the game......

Cooper has been called up to firstgrade - which takes us back to having no one for 5/8.
Campbell is the only playmaker in the side really.

At half time the Jets are winning 30-0. Craig Hamilton called them Newtown-Cronulla (obviously reading from Big League).

I went tonight. Box from the Launch! Sensational first half!

Tommy Gemmell and Frank Samia real Newtown boys had blinders!

I spoke to Jon Green and Kevin Kingston at the after match presentation and they both confirmed they loved playing at Henson and coming up to clap the fans after the game.

I told them to come all the way up to the fence!

AND how well did Nathan Merritt play (almost 4 tries) and Vince Mellars got the winner.

Its great to be a Newtown Supporter!

When we are in the semis I want us to be out there inforce. We should all sit together and give the boys the support they deserve.

So see me at the BBQ on Hill and give me your details. I will buy 50 tickets and we can all sit together!
