Woy Woy has revealed its strategy for avoiding the wooden spoon - a partnership with the Balmain Ryde Eastwood Tigers. The Rooster's team to play Cabramatta has 6 players from the BRET squad - Steve Mowbray, Mark Luland, Luke O'Callaghan, Leigh Bowman, Justin Bishop and Ranald Shultz. John Nash, who played with the Tigers last year, is also in the team.
The roosters had more than 70 scored against them 4 times last year so this arrangement will improve prospects providing it does not degenerate like with the Balmain's arrangement with RE did in the second half of last year.
Newtown has also benefited from the arrangement with the Sharks. with only 5 or 6 contracted players required for P/L, the Jets have been able to name a side to play Wenty that includes Hamilton Hughes, Ben Cook, Andy Le Breton, Anthony Farah, Adam Bennett, Thomas Gemmell, David Buckley and Glen Sedwell. IMO this is the strongest side the Jets have named for 3 seasons.
The competition is enhanced when the bottom sides are competitive.
The two newcomers face tough assignments with Belrose at home to The Entrance and Asquith, with Willie Bishop at fullback travelling to the mountains tonight to take on Windsor. The Wolves centres Mark Butler and Daniel Harris will have the luxury of feeding off the opportunities created by the electric half pairing of Craig Trindall and Darren Baker.
The Bulls have the bye and the Erina/Ourimbah game has been deferred to the spare weekend.
