The Entrance beat Mounties, unsure of the score but Entrance were outstanding.

Cabra & Windsor played a tough game with some tough calls made from the Ref. Cabra lead most of the game and Windsor caught up to highlight the board 18 all. With missed kicked goals from Tippitt, Cabra was no way near safe.
Last 30 seconds of the game when we all thought it was over and that it would finalise this game as a Draw. Just inches away from Windsors try line, Cabras Fullback made the worst decision to flick a pass to his inside man who fumbled the ball to see the Mounties pick up Cabras mistake and score. The smiles of joy from the Windsor boys as they cheered was priceless. They couldnt' believe it and what a good start of the year for Windsor, well done.

Final score Cabra 18 and Windsor celebrated with 22 points and 2x points added to the table for the 1st game of the year. Very entertaining game.

Cabra however with a lot of new players is definitely not the same team we saw last year, but I do hope they get it together.
Richie Parker and Matt Gruska were missing due to injuries.

Good Luck for Round 2!

Mounties had to leave out Jasson Asplet and Trent Horsey to stay under the points cap. The bench was Chester Paselio, Inoke Amone, Shane Saunders and Wayne Dargin. Dargin did not get on the field.

The Entrance dominated the first half played in very hot conditions and led 18-4 at half time. With 25 minutes remaining Charlie H charged down a kick and ran 60 metres to score against the run of play to make it 20-10. Charlie H caused trouble for the remainder of the game with his explosive pace from a standing start but The Entrance with Alex Moore outstanding never looked like losing.

The Entrance
1 Jamen McLeod
2 Ryan Wheelw
3 Shaun Corrigan
4 David Djukich
5 Ryan Cribb
6 Nathan Ward
7 Alex Moore
8 Chris Birchall
9 Matt Gibson
10 Coutney Rolff
11 Jamie Davis
12 Brett Blaker
13 Brian Tritton
14 Dane Lear
15 Corey Kinsella
16 Scott Hutchinson
17 Adrian Jones

Thanks for the scorers.

Did anyone see if Windsor fullback Johnny Russell played well?

Windsor fielded only 8 players from the 2006 squad but 4 of those players scored tries today so I guess the Wolves kept the right guys. There were a lot of mistakes in the game. Cabra were on maximum points even though Richard Parker, Nathan Carr and Matt Gruska didn’t play. Like Mounties they used only 16 players. Jason Chan, who played in the backrow last year was very powerful in the centres for the Wolves.

Cabramatta
1 Sam Aiga
2 David Moore
3 Allan Burns
4 Francis Betham
5 Grant Britcher
6 Willie Grech
7 Adam Tippett
8 Chris Yates
9 Don Thompson
10 Casey Ellis
11 Keith Heckenberg
12 Ross Brown
13 Phil Takchi
14 Jessie O’Neille
15 Spikaeha Teaupa
17 Chris Weaver
21 Did not play

Windsor
1 John Russell
2 Chris Barlow
3 Luke Bannon
4 Jason Chan
5 Anthony Dalton
6 Joel Willoughy
7 Drew Dalton
8 Tito Nuimata
9 Ryan Russell
10 Jason Wrigley
11 Shanelle Haumono
12 Nathan Russell
13 Ryan Tremonte
14 Ben Stewart
15 Joel Paton
16 James Baira
17 Wiremu Weepu

John Russell was very safe under the bombs and always ran the ball back with menace.
That sounds good.

He was a crowd favourite at North Sydney oval for 3 years and i hope he goes really well for Windsor.

Belrose 36 Demons 14
Half Time Belrose 24 to 4
Do not have Belrose scorers sorry, Demons L Cameron L Ackroyd and D Peachey tries with Ackroyd 1 goal.
Played in wet windy conditions ,which Belrose handled much better, the Demons dropped so much ball it was ridiculious, and their disciplin was awful, high tackles all night and penalised for it with a big penalty count againist them. In my opinion the Demons have problems in the forwards with no go forward and were out played in all areas of the game by the Belrose pack,it appears there is talent in the back line however opportunities will be limited by a ineffectual pack.

yeah what chester said:? lol
ball handling was terrible demons dropped ball 16 times to belroses 5, also poor discipline saw a 16-9 penalty count in favour of belrose.
dont think the forwards were inaffective, when they held onto the ball they gained yards pretty easily.
nathan mckay, dave johanson and joseph swamy all had good games for the demons.

Yes I was probably a bit harsh to bag the forwards as I did, I do agree with Johanson having a good game, and Swamy did play well in the backs, it appeared number 4 Peachey played injured he was clutching at his lower back all game, I was just really disappointed in the teams display, after travelling there from quite a distance in those terrible conditions to watch the game. There are many people on this forum who have talked about the Demons, so I have adopted them as one of my teams,I must say the Fairfax Stadium would have to be the best ground in the Jim Beam Cup. If I can I will make the trip to Windsor next week, lets hope things improve, I have heard good things about Tim OBrien as a coach.

yeah i know how you feel, i was dissapointed with the performance too, they just gave up so much possession. they should have alot of improvement in them though, it was only that squads second game playing together, so hope they improve.
a couple of more forwards(kelly, bristow) should be back from injury in the coming weeks too.

MARLINS BEAT ERINA 18 - 8 IN HURRICANE CONDITIONS

The Shellharbour City Marlins have defeated a strong Erina Eagles outfit in the 1st round of the Jim Beam Cup held at Ron Costello Oval on Saturday evening.

The Marlins ran into a gale force southerly wind and driving rain in the first half and did not score any points. This was mainly due to amount of tackling they did as the big Erina forwards tried to dominate. The Marlins held their own and owing to the Marlins brutal defence saw Erina score only 8 points in the first half. It was all agreed that the wind assistance was at least a 20 point advantage. Bad tactics from Erina saw them fail to secure a regular attacking advantage by using the wind.

At the break the Marlins had only used 3 interchange players from 12 and Erina using 5 from 12. Coach David Walsh knew this would be a great advantage to the Marlins in the second half and believed the big Eagles forwards would struggle running into the wind and rain with only 7 interchanges remaining.

The Marlins went onto score 18 unanswered points with tries to big forwards Peter Magnone, Jamie Dunning and winger Jamie Manukonga. 3 outstanding goals went to goalkicker Matt Coelho. The Marlins kicked early in play using the wind advantage and turning Erina around at every opportunity. Rough house tactics from Erina against the new kids on the block throughout the game saw them cop 16 penalites to Shellharbours 8.

It was a great team effort with the forwards being led by Captain Tunbridge, supported by Magnone, Dunning, Keelan, McPhail, Muir, Sablowski, Cooper, Gilmore and Paku.

Halves Schuster and Poisel did as best they could under the circumstances to lead the boys around the park but it was not a game for the backs. Fullback Ian Catania tried hard as did centres Neighbour and Zwolsman and wingers Coelho and Manukonga.

Next Sunday the Marlins take on the Belrose Eagles near Manly. Belrose had a big win on the weekend and will be tough opposition.

NFED,
did they change the rules this year as you need to name 17 players equalling 100 points not 16, you can play 16 but MUST name 17 otherwise points can be taken if you win.

Bluebag, They have to have 17 players so there must have been another but they didnt read out the teams and cabra listed 20 so it could have been Moses Afilologo, but whoever it was he didnt get on. Mounties did the same thing. Neither club has enough discounts to offset the players they have signed so they have to include players that they would prefer not to.
