Thats not entirely accurate Nfed....MANY of the players such as GEMMEL, SINISA, NICHOLAS, Le BRETON, VIAL, BOBONGINE, LAFI, DICKSON, VIAL and even EL MASRI ( There are even more but getting sick of typing ) played mostly premier league.

And for example LAFI is now playing first grade Roosters.......

But totally agree that if Jets don't beat Asquith this weekend I will be concerned.......

Jets
Wenty
Cabramatta
Bulls

There are 10 players that never go past Flegg for every one that gets to NRL. So if you dont think you are the one why not go straight to senior football and get paid accordingly rather than playing junior reps. Murphy played Flegg for Parra and he and Mansour, Watson & Erickson all come from Hills District, and a number of the other Asquith players are from Parra clubs where Horo was the coach of the development team a few years ago.
Money would be a good incentive to play JBC. Would A-grade players get payed more than Jersey Flegg players?

But i think some of them do still want to play at higher levels. With Mark Murphy he was trialling with the Warriors so he still has an ambition to make the NRL. If he played Jersey Flegg there is a more direct route into Premier League and from there he could break into NRL.

Do you think that because these players are probably worth less points that clubs would be more likely to be playing them in their side.

Do any other Jim Beam Cup clubs have players who are in the under-20s age group?

Is Mitch Erickson now playing for Asquith?

Do you think Asquith are favourite for the woodenspoon with the side Mark Horo is selecting?

No girvs Erickson not with Asquith but I know he was playing for Norths before. Generally, Asquith are the only team with players of this age. Rod Peake played for Newtown last year noe with Manly flegg. Horo has a position influence having coached them in development teams. Asquith would have plenty of leeway on points to put in experienced players but apparently Horo doesnt want them.

I suspect that the Warriors saw Murphy when he played in NZ with Combined Jim Beam. Similarly, Shane Shackleton played Flegg with Cronulla in 2001, then Sydney Bulls reserve grade 2002, Bulls top grade in 2003, Combined Jim Beam in 2004. Ricky Stuart got the tape of the game. Signed to Roosters 2005, NRL debut before season end, Started in NRL first 4 games 2006 before injury.

The top sides like the Bulls and Wenty have no flegg graduates in their top sides although in 2002 the Bulls used Bulldog flegg players like Callan Myles, Andrew Abounader, Jamie Frizzo and Reece Wellington in their reserve grade. They recruit from Premier League or other comps were players are playing below their ability or from their junior sides. Wenty have Ben Taia a Parra flegg grad in their A grade. His brother Zeb and Le Te Maari each played one Jim Beam game in 2003. They have both played NRL this year.

Windsor had one flegg grad Joel Paton but he played for them from U/6, now with Trindall and Baker gone they have put in another, Michael Carl, at half back.

Cabramatta, guided by its new coaching duo, hammered reigning premiers Windsor 34-14 yesterday. The score looks a bit more respectable than it might have been had the Wolves not got 2 consolation tries in the last 15 minutes.

The brothers Brown were dominant and Casey Ellis also played strongly in the forwards while Francis Betham finally started to see some ball. Nathan Carr was solid in the 5/8 role where he is the 4th starter in 5 games. Burns is back from injury. Everything is looking a lot better. 3 of the teams on 4 points have already had a bye so a win against Erina next start will have Cabra back where they belong.

Windsor missed Butler and Deonck but the big problem is in the halves. In the preseason they had Trindall and while he picked up his 2nd man of the match award in 3 starts in Premier League, the Wolves need to recruit a quality replacement if they are to be a serious contender.

It's interesting to hear that Casey Ellis was playing for Cabramatta. Has he left the Bears? Or is he just playing for Cabra when he is not selected for the Bears?

Cabramatta Two Blues appeared to have benefited the most from the weekend off as they kick started their points collection in the 2006 Jim Beam Cup competition with a convincing 34 to 14 victory over the Windsor Wolves.
Sydney Bulls remained undefeated with a strong 42 to 16 victory over Erina up the coast, whilst Wentworthville and Newtown kept themselves in the hunt with victories over The Entrance and Asquith respectively.

Round Five Results:
Saturday May 20:
Newtown Jets 48 defeated Asquith Magpies 10 at Henson Park

Sunday May 21:
The Entrance Tigers 10 lost to Wentworthville Magpies 16 at EDSACC Oval
Cabramatta Two Blues 34 defeated Windsor Wolves 14 at Cabramatta Sports Ground
Erina Eagles 16 defeated Sydney Bulls 42 at Erina Oval

Jets will be tough to beat in Beam this weekend. See that Andrew Le BRETON has been dropped into the side as well.

Belrose 14 (S Carew, W Bishop, N Leloux tries, Mortimer goal) drew with Newtown 14 (R Parker, T Nicholas, A La Vin tries, Nicholas goal).

The visitors were intent on domination in the forwards but Belrose took the ball into the gang tackles without taking a backward step. Repeated head shots produced a stream of penalties that allowed Belrose to camp in the Jets half for the first 15 minutes. In this period they crossed the tryline 3 times only to spill the ball. The scoreboard attendants werent bothered until the 37th minute when Belrose captain Steve Carew carried 3 defenders over the line and actually grounded the ball legally.

Belrose secured a strong position early in the second half when Willie Bishop picked up a rebound and ran 70 metres to score and then shortly after set up Leloux with a bullet pass. Belrose had not played since 7 May and visibly tired in the last 15 minutes. Richie Parker, who played very strongly throughout, scored and then Toufic Nicholas, as the Jets began to string a few passes together for a 14-10 scoreline with 4 minutes remaining. Twice in the last few sets Belrose knocked on when the Jets were on 6th tackle. The final scrum was packed with seconds remaining, a little chip bounced out of the defender's hands allowing Anton La Vin to score in the corner. Nicholas could not convert.

The other games went as expected: Windsor with Chan Ly at half beat the Entrance 40-16, Cabramatta beat Erina 40-18 and Wenty beat Asquith 36-12.

The stop start nature of the JB cup over the last month was due to the decision to suspend games while the Country championships were on. Erina and The Entrance had 13 of the 17 players in the Central Coast team but they got beaten by Northern Rivers so nobody played on the second blank weekend. The Woy Woy players that stuck with the club now know what it is like to be a winner, having won more games this year than the did in 3 years in the JB Cup.

Apparently Asquith put in a much improved performance against Wenty after the shellacking they suffered in the previous game and actually led in the second half.

There have been big changes to the Asquith line up. Ben Carney, who played mainly A grade for Windsor last year after 2 years with The Balmain Premier League team, has been recruited, along with Drew Guthrie from Penrith RU and Teeriki Naavoo, half back in the very strong Asquith A grade of 2004, has returned from Woy Woy.

Additionally, former North Sydney prop, Frank Perese was returned to the top grade after a year in A grade and Cooper Mateo, who has the versatlity to play either of prop or 5/8 was back in the pivot role. If Asquith keeps these experienced players in the side it has a chance to avoid the wooden spoon.

Damien Mostyn played made his first appearance in a comp game for the Sydney Bulls this year when he played Erina in May. He scored 6 tries for the Bulldogs Premier League in 5 games. Predictably he scored against Erina. The Bulls have also taken action to fill the gap from the loss over the last month of bookends Charlie Farah and Anthony Hadley to the Bulldogs by recruiting Fred Briggs from La Perouse. Briggs, who played in the Souths JB team in 2004 also made his first appearance against Erina.
