Jim Beam Cup on TV

It's great news that the Jim Beam Cup is going to be on Fox from next month, but really I wonder why the NSWRL doesn't push for the PL to be shown instead. Either way, it's a step forward.

From my understanding the PL rights are included with the NRL rights. NSWRL although running PL doesn't have any input on the TV rights. But they do for Jim Bean Cup.

Much like back several years when C7 was still around. C7 Sports showed Metro Cup, but didn't show Reserve Grade. The last time reserve grade was shown was in 1996 on SportsAustralia when 2 games a week were shown.

They should have P/league on TV as well, but the NRL are too fricken money greedy to allow any competition.

It is good that Jim Beam Cup is being shown, but i would love if Premier League could be shown.

I don't know how anyone could sell the Premier League rights to Channel 9 unless they were going to show the matches.

Well I'm not in favour of the JBC being on Fox. Dispite the Jets playing in the JBC I feel that it's a Mickey Mouse comp that has virtually no following outside Windsor. The comp is falling apart with only nine teams in it this year and we're always hearing about how there are going to be new teams from W'gong, Newcastle, Central West, Mars being added to the competition but it's basically the old Metro Cup with the addition of the Central Coast teams.
The NSWRL should have the guts to get the PL on TV. The PL has teams that people can associate with and can follow, Balmain, Norths Newtown etc.

I look forward to JBC being on Fox. If the Dragons aren't on Friday night and the Bulls are playing at home, I often head up to the Crest to watch. It's quite a good standard of footy and it's a pretty good set-up there as well. The more exposure that JBC can get, the better it will be for the comp.
With PL, you'd have to take into account cross network fees, where Ch.9 are at a ground, fox would have to pay for the feed, but where it's a fox game it should be open slather IMO. Maybe this could be the start of a designated "League Channel". :)

PL is separate to NRL rights and there are enough stand alone Pl games for that comp to be televised without cutting into NRL resources etc at NRL games.

Newtown, Norths, Wests, Balmain, Souths, Bulldogs, Dragons, Raiders have all played stand alone PL home games.

I am happy that the JBC is on Tv but the NSWRL needs to do more about PL, its best product.

The big problem for Premier League is that any TV company that takes it on, will want the Grand Final, and that is unfortunately signed up with the NRL rights.

Channel 9 technically do also own the entire Premier League finals rights as well, and could show them if they wanted to.

I'd prefer to see the JBC on TV than premier league...

I like the range of teams in the JBC..

WTF??? The JBC is not much more than an A Grade comp.

Give me a comp with teams that people have some knowledge of, give me the Premier league on TV NOW.

For RL as a whole increased media coverage is obviously welcome... I would probably have preferred PL (though, as someone who has gone to quite a few Metro Cup games in years past I probably have much more respect for the competition than some do.) It seems that the NSWRL invented the JBC as a distinct state-wide '2nd tier' competition for this media purpose and still has trouble seeing PL as anything more than a 'Reserve Grade' competition as opposed to a genuine or distinct competition worthy of support or media coverage...

It's clear that PL has outgrown this profile, has clubs capable of drawing crowds, and is possibly the 3rd best (depends if your a Qlder or not) RL competition in the world - it deserves a higher profile. I'm confused as to why the NSWRL dosen't invest in the one 2nd tier competition (i.e. combine the resources/players/fans of both) and promote that competition...

In terms of the JBC Fox coverage, would I be correct in saying that Fox has paid nothing for the 'rights'? From the RLR article it sounded as though the JBC clubs were paying ($5,000 each) to produce the program? Almost like a paid advertisement for the competition.

Also, PL ever being on TV (FTA at least) seems as far away as ever with the ABC allegedly keen to broadcast the new national club RU competition (article link below) starting July next year. This may jeopardise the QRL coverage too. I sincerely hope the comments about the ABC's interest is merely over-confident RU posturing.
