Hmm..

Now you think this will DEFINITELY decide our season..

If he pleaded guilty we still could of been in with a chance, now it really is life or death so to speak.

He has pleaded guilty and if he could get a downgrade...

then he could play finals

right choice to fight it, even though its going to be hard.

He would be mad to have not pleaded guilty. Crazy!

If he didn't plead guilty then he would lose the early guilty plea discount if charged even on a reduced level.

Johns to contest severity of NRL charge
Tuesday, August 15, 2006 - 3:44 PM

Newcastle captain Andrew Johns will contest the severity of his grade three contrary conduct charge at the NRL judiciary on Wednesday night.

Johns pleaded guilty to his grade three contrary conduct charge for allegedly verbally abusing a touch judge during his side's controversial loss to Manly on Friday night, but is contesting the severity of the grading.

The Knights halfback would have received a three-match ban with an early guilty plea, but risks being sidelined for four games if he is unsuccessful in seeking a downgrade.

A four-match ban means Johns will not be available for Newcastle until the third week of the play-offs.

No if he fails he will still get 4 weeks. He just pleaded guilty meaning that he knows he abused the official, he is just going to contest the severity of the punishment. Try and get a downgrade. Any bet he will get it downgraded and escape with a 2 week ban.

I think he is taking a big risk.....I dont think it will be downgraded. I believe he should have taken the early guilty plea and copped 3 weeks of games to miss....anyway life does go on!!!!!!!!

For sure...they both will give a little bit and meet in the middle...he'll get a grade 1 or 2 and get either a week or two, my bet.

I dont think that you'll find anyone who's denied after seeing or hearing of the footage, what were pissed off at is the numerous other instances of such behavior this year and the fact that they've obviously picked the biggest fish to make an example of.

With a panel of ex-footballers on the judiciary board, he'll get the downgrade for sure.

The Newcastle Knights have decided to contest Andrew Johns' contrary conduct charge for swearing at a touch judge.

Johns and the Knights were given an extension until 3pm eastern to decide whether or not to contest the charge.

After a long meeting between officials it was decided it was worth risking a four-match ban, which would rule their skipper out for the first two weeks of the finals if unsuccessful.

The club also has the option of trying to have the charge downgraded.

The NRL has conceded the match officials made a mistake with the ruling that prompted the outburst but still fined Newcastle $5,000 for comments made by coach Michael Hagan supporting Johns.
