So Cleary KO’s a bloke in origin with a shoulder to the head and its ‘haha look a penalty for tackling too hard’ now Dale with a clean hit has a head clash and its ‘omg don’t tackle hard you might hurt someone’

Huge difference. They are attempting a tackle, Not just running out to belt someone. Which the game is trying to stamp out
There is a huge difference - one player is leading with the head and has their arms well back.
That player isn't Dale Finucane.

So now, we are punishing players for being quick off the defensive line, but a good ol' headbutt is all ok?
Interesting.

Well your pictures are from a couple of years ago... The game is far softer now.

Yes you rush out of the line with the intention of putting on a big hit. It goes wrong you will get suspended

They should both have been penalised.

Like I said elsewhere, if there's an accepted duty of care to avoid the head, and if we've banned shoulder charges, then there should also be a duty of care to tackle properly and stop blokes racing out with no technique and no intent to do anything except the hardest possible body on body contact.

It's the only way the game survives with what we now know about CTE etc.

Equating that with hurr durr penalty for tackling too hard is just thick. Finucane never made any effort at a tackle (bar the swinging arm that missed) but plenty of guys can fold pricks without needed to play human cannonball

A f**king pathetic suspension. Embarrassed that my club was involved
I wonder if the Clearys had come into the presser with a different attitude whether the MRC / judiciary result would be different? We’ll never know.

Regardless, this is a clusterf**k all the nrls doing. Love shooting themselves in the foot

The injury is what made the MRC do what they did

Well the photo he used is a few years old. So apples and oranges

But that is the way the game is going, Rush up put on a hit. Hit goes wrong you spend time on the sidelines

The injury and the reaction to it. Agree, it’s a knee jerk reaction. The issue is accidental head clashes have never been cited, or even penalised before. Now it has, so what’s changed?

There has been a few cases across the last few years where accidents are now getting penalised and suspended. The game is going soft

Yeah, this one is different. It used to be just stiff arms. Now it’s lifting over the horizontal, feet at ball trying to prevent a try, even shoulder.

In all these, you can argue the defender should be able to avoid the contact.

With accidental head knocks it’s a whole other can of worms. Quite often it’s the defender worse for wear after a suicidal charge into the defensive line. If it’s a Marty Lang style mental charge so we consider the carelessness of that?

Of the nrl wanted to get this out of the game, where is the foresight? Why not sit down calmly and tell clubs in the off-season this will be a new thing? Why not bring in a specific charge reflecting the genuine accidental nature of this contact?

This weekend and moving into the finals, there will be head collisions. Now we’re going to have penalties, reports, players lying down cause no one knows what the f**k will happen and they’ll try to gain an advantage.

The argument would be IF Finucane stops and braces for contact does accidental head contact happen?

Soon it will be tags for all players

So you're suggesting a head clash is fine as long as you don't try to make a hard tackle? That's absurd.

As for the "if they had have penalised it, may a week would suffice", are you justifying punishing the player and sharks further because the referee/bunker made an error? That's ridiculous.
If you run in like a lunatic like Finucine did and try to put on a huge shot then yes you should be accountable for a head clash IMO.

Napa got suspended for it twice.

No he didn’t. Napa got charged with leading with the head. A deliberate dog act.

If Dale accidentally knees Stephen in the nuts - penalty.
If Dale accidentally elbows Stephen in the throat - penalty.
Accidental but extremely careless.
Why is Dale responsible for the positioning of all his body parts except his head?
