It could happen, but I'll believe it when I see it.

Both sides will need to make significant concessions for it to work.

I remember when the media were all in on the Perth Bears as the 18th team. That turned out to be wrong and ended up being replaced with articles about the Bears siding with Pasifika and PNG. Around 7 or 8 years ago we had the media going into over drive about the Gold Coast Bears replacing the Gold Coast Titans. At one stage we had the media saying the next three teams would be PNG, North Sydney and Newtown.

Won't happen. Perth bears is impossibility. Vlandys knows that. Best way to make Perth people go away.

Out of interested why do you think that? Do you think more people in Sydney and Brisbane will tune in to watch the Perth Bears than the WC Pirates? What makes you think that once the first year novelty has worn off? I dont see any major Sydney uplift in tv audience when the sharks or manly play v when Melbourne or Brisbane play?

Offers away support in Sydney & historic IP to hit ground running. Norths aren't going anywhere either, unlike unnamed businessmen..

@Centy Coast has been talking about the bears making a lot of concessions

apparently they aren’t even asking for a minority shareholding in the bid which I personally don’t believe

The fact Cummins hasn’t been spoken too but the bears have been kept in the loop makes me feel the bears are in a strong position

Australian government already working on PNG team. Meanwhile, Perth bid has been ignored. All we get is vague comment from Vlandys saying he wants Perth Bears. Good laugh tho!!

Where the hell are we going to get all these 65-70 players from for these 2 new teams.

We have an injury crisis atm and some sides atm barely have 21/22 fit players available.

Bringing in 2 more teams will only make it worse.

Perth should be team 18 for a couple of reasons. Firstly, the NRL will be negotiating the next tv deal pretty soon., where Perth could come in either 2027 or 2028. Having a team in a new metro market could help drive up the value during discussions with Nine, Fox, Ten whoever.

Secondly, PNG can be team 19, and possibly bring them in at 2030. A PNG team in the NRL is more challenging and probably requires more time to work out on a number of issues on and off the field.

Example, if a PNG team is going to be based in Australia, then they should locate either in Brisbane or Sydney. Won't need to use a plane for some away games. If they are situated in Cairns, they will have to travel every week.

PNG is going to be a massive challenge for the NRL. More logically, the NRL should go with Perth, and then later on, NZ 2 and Brisbane 3.

Tv don't want Perth because nobody there watches the game. Nine are keen on another south east Queensland team, while fox fund Redcliffe.

PNG hunters have played in Aussie comp for years. People are overstated challenges.

you get the sense the rush job for PNG as club 18 is purely down to the only thing making it viable, Albos largesse. They cant sit around on it in case he is ousted which looks likely.

Its a good question, Vlandys keeps talking about the $400mill investment in grassroots, and the dumb journos dont even realise that is just what the NRl has been spending anyway, its not new investment on top of what we have.

Aussie govt isn’t going to fund png until they have an nrl team

every year they wait rugby league misses out on 60 million dollars

They'll sell the Perth Bears concept as righting two wrongs. The Perth team will have East Cost support, which will reflect in ratings and away game attendances. And only delusional losers will get up in arms about it.
It's a good point mate. The goodwill this will create in Sydney will be amazing. The away crowds and TV ratings (which would normally be shit for an out of state team) will be solid. They have the Manly rivalry built in.

For the WA side of things, healing the wounds from the Reds' demise and building pathways and participation back stronger than ever before.

For the NRL, goodwill, ratings, taking on the challenge of our second not heartland club.

It's really a win all around. Hopefully no premiership matches at North Sydney Oval, we need 12 games in Perth to grow the game there
