What makes someone want to play for their national team? Usually it's a combination of:
  • Patriotism
  • Money
  • Opportunity
  • Loyalty
Now the FFR XIII unfortunately don't have money, so it's down to patriotism, opportunity and loyalty.

With the current setup there is zero opportunity and the way the coach treats a lot of the players (ie. Throwing Fages under a bus a couple of years back) I'd assume most players aren't feeling a deep seeded sense of loyalty to Aurélien Cologni.

As such it is only those who are loyal to the Red, White and Blue who are going to turn up non-RLWC years (where there is an opportunity for them to potentially earn an SL or NRL contract).

It's a similar issue that the likes of Ireland and Scotland have.

As such the only way for France to fix it is they either need an SL or NRL coach or to find money.

Whilst Robinson would be the target, Sylvain Houles and even McNamara would be able to get a better turn out to most matches, as they would be seen as an opportunity and are far better people managers.

Anyway, unfortunately it feels like the FFRXIII aren't even considering reviewing Cologni's position

Australia need to create a kangaroos B team like England have done with the Knights for emerging players. They can then play likes of Fiji, png etc tomgive those sides more intense competition every year.

As for France, they need a massive shake up starting with dragons not filling the side with Australians and genuine feeder systems to bring players up to SL. Toulouse getting in SL May help eventually, their jnrs generally perform relay well but they don’t kick on to SL level it seems.

Problem is with P&R Catalans won't be willing to risk playing too many untried French players. They'd rather keep patching their team with quick fixes and it's hard to blame them because going down a division would be a disaster.

Plenty of 30° days in the South Of France where all these guys are from.

True...but not many 30 degree days when they have to play the best young players in the NRL, potential test players.
