I just hope the club is not forking out more cash to this dude
I’m sick of it
He got himself into this mess and we should just F him off and move on
De Belin has been a good loyal and talented player for us. He has got himself into a jam however, he has not been found guilty of those charges as yet, so he is presumed to be innocent until/if the courts find him guilty.

NRL player Jack de Belin underwent surgery following a cancer diagnosis this year.

The Daily Telegraphreports that de Belin found a lump in his testicle earlier this year and recently underwent surgery for testicular cancer.

It is the second-most common form of cancer found among young men aged 18-39.

The report claims that de Belin underwent surgery in early September after seeking medical advice and that it was a success.

He is expected to make a full recovery.

His manager Steve Gillis though told the Daily Telegraph: “It’s a private and personal matter.

“He’s a very strong willed man and his focus remains on clearing his name before the courts.”

De Belin has a new court date after the jury was unable to reach a verdict in his rape trial.

The retrial is set for April 12 in Sydney after it initially looked like it would take place in August in Wollongong.

The NRL recently confirmed that de Belin would remain stood down under the code’s no-fault stand down policy until a final verdict was reached.

“The no-fault stand down rule is not about forming a view on the guilt or innocence of an individual, it is about protecting the values and reputation of the game while a serious criminal process is underway,” said NRL CEO Andrew Abdo.

“Mr de Belin will remain subject to the no-fault stand down rule until his criminal proceedings have been determined by the court.”

If after review, the DPP decide to dorp this case or if indeed De Belin is found to be 'not guilty', then compensation claims for actions by the State and the NRL are likely to be the next phase in this sorry saga.

If it is a private and personal matter which it is...why make it public.
I get the "now" post initial trial but....
Is there not another trial looming!.
Is this an attempt to get into the heads of future jurors?..or the media softening their initial dart throwing reporting...

A private and personal matter leaked at the most opportune moment lol

I can’t remember ever this much energy being expended on 1 player for so long at such a high cost and frankly speaking he isn’t actually that good a player.

Sure some might say he is a rep incumbent but it’s not as if he is immortal and has a mortgage on his position at all levels.

If he was at the Roosters or Storm I am positive this would have all been handled very differently as in their system the one is never more important than the whole.

Of course there's always some sinister back story that we're not being told. Fair dinkum, some of you would fit in well with the tin foil brigade.

If JDB wanted to use his cancer to advantage, then why didn't it come out before the jury went in? Logic.

Poor old JDB, what a couple of years he’s had. For all we know the bloke is completely innocent of anything illegal has been turning up week after week trying his backside off at training apparently being our second best trainer outside Lomax, all through the bubble, the trial, the trial by media and a cancer diagnosis. I feel for his family and him. He must be built of different stuff mentally to deal with this. I wish him well for the future, hopefully some stuff starts going right for him.

Fair call there FCD... alternatively, the universe may have spoken louder than the legal system. Possibly a case of karma is a bitch.

Footy star and accused rapist Jack de Belin, 29, reveals shock testicular cancer diagnosis and how he secretly underwent emergency surgery to save his life during his high-profile trial
  • De Belin, 29, found a lump in his testicle and underwent surgery in September
  • The shock revelation comes as his rape retrial was scheduled for next April
  • The NRL star has been charged with five counts of aggravated sexual assault
By ELIZA MCPHEE FOR DAILY MAIL AUSTRALIA and AAP

NRL star Jack de Belin underwent surgery for testicular cancer during his high-profile rape trial.

The 29-year-old reportedly found a lump in his testicle earlier this year and had surgery to remove it in September.

De Belin kept his diagnosis hidden throughout the trial with only close friends and St George staff aware of his condition.

His surgery came just two months before the trial began in November where he pleaded not guilty to five counts of aggravated sexual assault.

The Dragons forward is expected to make a full recovery, the Daily Telegraph reported.

The cancer scare has added to his tumultuous year, with his future plans now stalled after a jury were unable to reach a verdict last week. A retrial has been scheduled for April.

Along with co-accused Callan Sinclair, 23, de Belin, will defend five charges of aggravated sexual assault in the Downing Centre in Sydney from April 12.

A jury in Wollongong Local Court were unable to deliver a unanimous verdict against either accused man despite nine hours of deliberating.

The jury foreperson said the group would 'absolutely not' even be able to reach a majority verdict and was thus discharged and the trial abandoned.

Three weeks of evidence was heard in the high-profile trial against the two players, who have always maintained the threesome with the 19-year-old victim at an address in North Wollongong in December, 2018, was consensual.

If found not guilty, Mr de Belin, 29, could save his NRL career.

He has sat out the past two seasons for the St George Illawarra Dragons after he was banned under the code's controversial no-fault stand down policy.

The trial is tipped to last three weeks.

Jarryd Hayne and Jack de Belin have shelled out a combined total of more than $1million dollars in their sexual assault cases - which both ended in a mistrial.

The embattled NRL stars will likely now have to stump up even more cash to compensate their high-flying legal eagles when their retrials begin.

Insiders estimate Hayne, 32, is paying up to $13,000 a day on lawyers while de Belin, 29, is said to be forking out upwards of $10,000.

The St George Dragons lock forward's case was discharged by a Wollongong jury after a tense 20-day trial.

De Belin was charged with raping a 19-year-old woman in a North Wollongong unit in the early hours of December 9, 2018 - along with his co-accused Callan Sinclair, 23.

Both pleaded not guilty to five charges of aggravated sexual assault and the jury of seven men and five women were unable to reach a unanimous verdict on any of the charges.ly respected silk de Belin hired - barrister David Campbell SC - is estimated to have charged the New South Wales Blues enforcer about $7000 a day, the Daily Telegraph reported.

His team of solicitors are likely costing upwards of $3000 a day.

De Belin also took the NRL to the Federal Court of Australia where he lost his challenge against the code's no-fault stand down policy.

This cost him $100,000 in legal fees and he was also ordered to pay a further $300,000 to cover the NRL's legal costs.

De Belin is now looking at shelling out a further $150,000 when his retrial gets underway in April.

The total bill is likely to add up to about $800,000.

It is not yet known whether Jarryd Hayne will stand for another trial, but so far the Parramatta fullback is estimated to have spent about $250,000.

The New South Wales and Australian representative player enlisted the services of Phillip Boulten SC and solicitor Penny Musgrave.

He was charged with aggravated sexual assault and recklessly inflicting actual bodily harm after he allegedly committed two sex acts on a woman, 28, at a home in near Newcastle, causing two lacerations to her genitalia.

But earlier this month a Newcastle District Court was unable to reach a unanimous verdict after the 11-day trial.

Sources said his senior counsel charges up to $9900 per day for his services.

'Boulten is the cheapest silk on the planet for his level of expertise,' one Sydney criminal lawyer said.

Prices also depend on the complexity of the case, the lawyer said.

What a mess for all involved. Who’d have thought JdB would still be in limbo 2yrs after the event. I’m sure all parties just want the nightmare over.
