Looking forward into 2004, what is the ONE thing you would most want to change about our mighty Sharks team in comparison to 2003.

In other words, what is the one area in which we most need to improve to be sucessfull in the new season?

My choice would without a doubt be defence, but I want to know what you all think?

The Coach!

It is obviously the most important change the sharks need to make.

Sharks feeding time!

I certainly wouldn't change the coach.

I think the biggest change will need to be defence in the backline and more offloads from the forward pack.

Defence is something which must be worked on. 704 points in 24 games is far too much. Ball control needs attention too. But I'm happy with the squad of players for 2004.

To pick just one area for improvement is too hard!
I would have to agree that our defence this seaosn left a lot to be desired and this really needs to be worked on.

But we also have to start scoring more tries - I don't wanna see any more scores with the Sharks on 0 at full time.

And we need to be able to play for the full 80 minutes and not give up when we are behind on the scoreboeard.

And we need more discipline!!!! Actually, that would have be the ONE most important thing I would want to see improved. Sharks give away too many stupid penalties!

But having said all that, I am quietly optimistic for season 04!

I am very pleased with the playing roster we have. If new blokes like Dimitri step up and fill some gaps we will have a great team.

1. Peachey
2. Pelo/Rieck/Emeilo/Ross/whoever
3. Vagana
4. Franze
5. Merritt
6. Aitken
7. Kimmorley
8. Stevens
9. Gibson
10. Beattie
11. P.Bailey
12. Nutley
13. Hilder

14. Galloway
15. Bird
16. Newton
17. who ever

If our old blokes can stay fit (Kimmorley, Beattie, Vagana, Stevens etc) and play well then we could be up there. But if injuries come up again we are f**ked. We have a good mix of young future rep talent like Hilder, Galloway, Aitken etc but for them to play at their best we need the team to be at its best. It's a lot easier for a kid to come into a good side and play well then a bad side a play well generally but there are always exceptions.

Defense needs to be worked on big time. Ball control is a confidence thing I think and it will improve as we win again but to win we need to tackle. With Franze and Vagana in the centers out defence out wide will be a heck of a lot better than Anderson and Bailey (good but is too slow). The one thing I felt watching the boys that we needed was a strike player out wide and now with Vagana we have one.

Two Ds - Defence and Discipline.

This year we had the second highest number of missed tackles in the comp, at 36.2 per game. Only Manly fared worse, at 36.5. Most of this is down to the centres - after losing Franze we really had nobody left with any real experience in the position. Bails was a band-aid and did well, but he couldn't do it all himself. The wingers lost confidence in them and kept coming in to cover, leaving a freeway outside them.

Next year the Fonz is back, with Vagana joining him. Two blokes that can attack and defend. anyone whyo night question Vagana's defence only needs to look at last week's game against the Storm, holding up two players over the line. And of course, there were his two tries...

Going into Round 26 we also had the highest number of penalties conceded in the NRL, at 121. Top sides don't give away this much free territory. The top 5:

Nutley - 23
Beattie - 21
Bailey - 19
Kimmorley - 13
Gallen - 10

It's not surprising to see Nutley and Kimmorley up there, as they involve themselves in everything that happens. Even so, 23 is way too high. Most of Noddy's missed tackles occur when he chases down his own kicks - maybe a bit of support in the chase would help...

Most of us would agree that Beattie has had a quiet year, which is why his figure of 21 is even more disappointing. Bailey has had a great year, but similarly 19 is a bit of a worry for an Origin rep.

Hmmm! A toughie. Well, we have more attacking weapons next year. And our young blokes should be bigger and faster and stronger and more experienced - that should fill some of the defensive gaps. I wish some of our forwards were a little bigger - but some of the young blokes might be. Yep! I know! Got it! I wish Kimmorley stays injury free next year cause we probably woulda made the 8 if he had in 2003. Yep! That's my one wish.

Or last nights game where 3 tries & 4 line breaks occurred down his side.
He was clearly targetted by the Roosters.

More half truths and relevant ommisions from the king of negativity.

Just can't get over Vagana coming to the Sharks despite your assurances he was a done deal for the Dogs.

Easts scored 4 tries last night. Chris Walker scoreed 2. One down the opposite side to Vagana( the one where the dogs player went for the intercept and knocked it into the Rooster) and one down the centre off an inside pass from Fittler.

The one try I clearly remember being near Vagana was where Vagana and the winger were up against 5 or 6 Roosters, Incidently Vagana took his man, Ricketson, down but he was a little luckily able to throw the ball out the back. Any fair minded i.e. non Blacktip, fan would hardly be able to blame Vagana for that try but rather the whole team for not numbering up.

I don't remember the Hegarty try.

In attack ...lomu started strong last night ....he droped off a couple of tackles though ...............Then when omeley scored from that tap off, ricky pulled him off and didnt put him back on ..................I reckon his mediocre form has alot to do with the hatred between him and sticky.............. I'll judge him when he's a shark ....and only then

And griefy ........you are obviously very unimpressed with the signing of Vagana....

The only other centre on the market in a similar class was mick devere ........

For someone who moans and groans about large player payments, would have you been willing to pay a centre the 420k+ that it would have taken to lure him here?! (you will probably answer this with a yes.........but had it happened we wouldnt hear the end of it)

And for someone who moans and groans about how boring our attack is .....mick devere isnt what i'd call "flash" ............in fact, i'd classify him in the boring catergory! Very solid indeed, but boring

Vagana is a player that we NEED .....a proven finisher on countless occasions .........his try scoring record speaks for itself

Vagana's signing was always going to fodder for Griefy.

If he stayed with Canterbury it would have been told you so, the SHarks can't attract big names and he;d still be a quality player.

He came to us so naturally for Mr Negativity Vagana's no good anymore. And to make matters worse he proved Griefy wrong.
