I thought this thread said 'Karmawave: most improved?'

On topic: Marv has been good for us this year in doing what we have needed from him. He should really have two tries from the last two games. Also he replaced Hilder last week and there wasn't a drop in the standard of defence, which is one area i think he really has improved in.

hahaha
thats exactly what i thought!!

i dunno
ive always thought marv was been alright
but i agree with others
faas, housten and taia as our most improved

Funny thing is I thought the same thing and I was the one who posted it!

I don't disagree about Faas, Taia and Houston at all. I suppose I was looking at it from the point of view that all 3 were very good players imo already (Taia is my favourite player in the NRL, incredibly underrated).

But Marvin is a guy who came from nowhere, an ordinary five-eighth that if you saw his name on the team sheet on tuesday you were really worried about our chances. These days I have no problem seeing that he is our only bench backrower. He's doing the job. No he's not amazing, but for the money he's earning he really is providing value in firstgrade at the moment. I'm not sure how many of us would even have predicted him be capable of that.

There are plenty of bench forwards who come on and make a few tackles, a few solid hit-ups and then go off. On at least 2 (possibly 3) occassions this year I have seen Karawana burst through half gaps and run 15 - 20 metres in the second half and get a quick play the ball. Not once have the commentators called his name though.

Anyway, on another note: how many injuries do you reckon it would take to the mighty Maroons to see Faas grab a bench spot? On this form he would have to be there or thereabouts.

Houston is by far most improved on last year. 2008 we were ready to punt him. 2009 he's been one of the form players of the comp. Karawana is a benchie at best to be honest...

Didn't Karawana bomb a try last week from a kick? He also threw that forward pass in the dying seconds of the Tigers game. While he adds depth, he doesn't add much else. Reminds me of Todd Bates

Karawana is the perfect 18th man, and our most improved. He went from a nothing player, with no real spot, to a guy relied on to come in late and keep the tempo up.

Faas threw the forward pass against the Tigers, and yes he did bomb a try last week.

Taia and Taufua for mine also Kidleys defence has improved alot aswell, he'd get beaten pretty often in the past and this year he's made some brilliant try savers

The whole forward pack has improved. They are playing as a unit, much more consistant, directed around by a great dummy half! Personally I like what Mark Tafua is doing. No nonsense, hits hard, mobile and low mistake rate. He is a very, very solid player.

Let's remember both first choice props are out, Simpson has missed a heap of footy, Patterson's been out for a number of weeks and we lost Ciraldo second game. The forwards are leading the way for us and have a heap of improvement in them considering the majority of them are still relatively inexperienced at first grade level.

I think Brian has done a good job with Karawana, he is improving week to week.

Gidley's defence was one of the main reasons alot of us wanted Kurt at lock many years ago.

He has played some really nice minutes for us this year. He seems up for it this season where in the past he looked a bit short on ability. I think he has improved a lot, but i think the most improved should probably either go to Houston, Wicks or Uate.

Errr, you maybe.

Agreed.

It depends how you look at most improved. Those of us on the House bandwagon last year just see it as fulfilling potential.

Karawana's game has come from nowhere really, especially considering his role as a utility backrower.

Come on...he was mediocre last year...amazing what an off-season and a bit of discipline has done.
