At least the powers that be starting to discuss the issue. Gallop wouldn't have known these issues even existed!

he's firing the issue back at the RLIF.......i can tell you now under RLIF laws your can play for NSW/QLD and for another nation providing you don't actually get capped by australia.......

Exactly. Playing origin locks you into Australia as much as signing a pledge on some paper does to any other country...

If the NZRL want it changed they can pressure to get it changed. Have a look through teams u16's and u18's teams. Plenty are islanders. So the issue wont go away. Use the Tamou case. Tim Grant, Jennings, Hayne etc all played junior reps against him or in the same rep teams. Yet he can't play SOO. So either don't let them play for NSW at schoolboys or open the SOO eligility. It will benfit the international game in the long run

sam burgess should'nt as he is'nt a product of the NSWRL system.......but a argument could be made for george burgess to be selected

if it true what you say about grant looking at changing the rules as you say...the get ready for a boom in development......

Yeah is he any less eligible then Kasiano 1 year in QLD then at the Bulldogs? Atleast Burgess has 3 years in NSW.

I have no problem with it the NSW or the QLD system developed them. If NZ had more teams would they of come over here? So we go there and get players they should get the benefits of them Internationally

imo thats the real issue, atm its just Tamou &Kasiano. In the last 5-10 years NRL teams now have full time scouts in NZ, more and more are coming over in thier late teens which makes them eligible for 2 countries.

At this stage its 2 players.. in 5 years it might be 15-20 players and thats when its really going to harm IRL. It would be a tragady for irl if the next Benji elects to play origin.

imo, Grant passing the buck to the RLIF is weak...i thought he was 'pro-active'!

Lets hope he says something about it. He's incharge of the board that made the rule. He can fix it tomorrow. It's a growing issue it won't go away. You will still get the odd player changing to Australia. I can handle that if they feel more Australian the kiwi.

Like Hoffman went the other way. What I don't want is a player wanting to play origin but not Australia getting a start in the jersey. Like Hunt never did he mention Australia just he wants to play for QLD.

anyone watch it? what did he say?

He said he had been working with the NZRL for past 2 days, trying to resolve the issue.
He basically said the commission had inherited these rules/laws, and they are processing it all and seeing where it all links and fits into the grand scheme.
Other than that, not much. No opinion or mention of interntaional RL outside of aus and nz...

John Grant realises theres a problem and is working with NZRL.. which is good news.

Andrew Moore (the host of the show) stressed it was important for the IC to take action asap.

Kieran Foran was on the show and when asked about the issue talked about the passion he has for the Kiwi jersey and players should make thier decions based on passion not money.

Tallis and Matt Johns have also been vocal on the issue over the last few days on Fox. Tallis in particular is strong on his opinion Sam & James shouldnt be allowed to play SOO.

So only Australian born can play? So no Foran, Hoffman, Beale etc in NZ? So why can Petero play for QLD. Gorden is just a knob

I dont think anyone has a problem with Aust citizens, genuine childhood migrants and the like playing SoO.
People have a problem with those they perceive have emigrated here for footy, or footy related schooling, declaring themselves as Kiwis and then switching when they arent selected by the Kiwis as quickly as they might like, or when SoO payrises get press.

Nah. Only NSW and QL born should be able to play SoO. Strip the eligibility back to basics. Why should Victorians and Kiwis be considered for NSW and QL? SoO eligibility has been turned on it's head.

State of Origin, in its present form is irrelevant and is only doing damage to the sport.

Evereyone is going round and beating their chests that everything is so good, but the killing of the international game in the pacific region with Origin is only setting the sport up for a hard fall.

Couple of questions for the genuine supporters of SoO i.e. NS Welshmen and Queenslanders. Are you happy to see the likes of Tamou and Kasiano considered for Origin or do you think it dilutes the product into another All Stars game? 80,000 at SoO II suggests it's the former. Do you think there'll come a time when yet another player drafted in breaks the camel's back and disillusionment with SoO will kick in or are people happy to see anybody in a blue or maroon shirt just as long as the standard of the spectacle is upheld?

No, lack of opportunity, meaningful games and tournaments for pacific nations is ruining the pacific region. Fixing this along with stricter rules regarding nation swapping will help our sport reach its potential, origin should be left to Australia with some of the huge revenue generated help fund pacific growth!

As a blue fan I hate seeing foreign players declare themselves a Blue or Maroon just Sticky or Mal can win a game of footy. For me it does detract from the game having foreign players. They need to be careful as SOO is meant to be a representative fixture but is rapidly turning into an invitational selection.

I take it on a case by case basis. Some of the most loyal Australians we have are people that were born elsewhere. I certainly don't believe that NSW, Qld or Australian eligiblility should be on a place of Birth solely basis.

I feel that Tamou pushed the line to the edge and Kasiano has broken the line and this will lead to something happening. Whether it will be an improvement remains to be seen.

I think to play for Australia you should be an Australian citizen, or at least hold permanent residency status (not sure of the legalities). I think 3 years for residency is a joke, but am unsure if we can over rule that.

I feel to play for NSW or Qld you should meet that criteria, plus have spent the majority of your childhood (0-17) in that state for your schooling and junior sport. For migrants, I'd like to see them having spent at least 5 or 6 years in a State prior to being available for selection.

I find it galling that Greg Inglis has Bowraville listed under his name in the introductions before the State games.
