VIKINGS MAKE WISE MOVE FOR WINGER
Monday 26th July 2004

Widnes Vikings have signed winger Wise Kativerata from Parramatta Eels, and also taken Huddersfield's Matt Whitaker on a month's loan.
Fijian winger Kativerata, 27, has only made two appearances this season following a move from South Sydney.

The former St George Illawarra Dragons flyer has joined Widnes until the end of the season, and has been joined by Whitaker at The Halton Stadium.

Whitaker, a 22-year-old centre or back rower, has been on loan at Halifax recently and was recommended by former Widnes player and the current coach at The Shay, Anthony Farrell.

Widnes are running 10th (of 12) and desperate to ensure they avoid relegation.

Well he hasn't been named in any grades and no reports on him being injured so it looks like he might be going.

Kativerata refused English visa
July 28, 2004 - 12:36AM

Parramatta's Fijian winger Wise Kativerata will not be joining English Super League strugglers Widnes for the remainder of the season after being refused a visa.

The Vikings announced yesterday they had signed the former St George Illawarra and South Sydney player on a short-term deal and he could make his debut against Castleford on Saturday.

But Kativerata has been turned down in his application for a holiday visa.

"Despite advice to the contrary Wise has been unable to obtain the necessary permission to play rugby league in the UK," Widnes said in a statement.

"Whilst accepting we are left with some egg on our face the visa refusal was beyond our control."

Looks like he won't be going, wonder if he is going to get re-signed by Parra for not only 2005 but also the rest of 2004 as Wise & Parra may have already signed and filed his release for the rest of this year, now they may need to re-sign him for him to play on the weekend.
