Ran us into the ground???? He took over the worst squad in the comp IMO and did a reasonable job with what he had last season. The problem was we bought well in the offseason but he couldn't seem to work out a plan to match the players in his team ala Des Hasler who has done an amazing job with the Dogs.
As funny as this sounds i think he has left us in a far better state than when he got to Parra. He has helped improving our Junior structures which will hopefully bare fruit in a a few years time and he was hamstrung with the salary cap and what a few players were on. In 2014 We will have plenty of cap space to make a big play on the market. My main problem with his was i don't think he was tactically sound enough to be a first grade coach, so i doubt a Bluey and him Combo would be the answer. Also the style of play he coaches would hardly suit the Warriors team IMO. Maybe a devolpment role with your 20's would be a way to go.
Speaking of recruitment, one would have to be an utter moron to think this year's team was better placed to compete... or more to the point, a goose to make the moves they made. By that I mean I find it galling that so much experience was allowed to move on from the club last year - Heremaia, Berrigan, Latimore, Moon, Seymour, Hohaia... Philosophically it sounds like a grand idea to keep growing from within, but I think that was too much of a cull of experienced players, with only really Friend coming in. My impression is Dean Bell is responsible for the direction they take in terms of recruitment, so while the grow the farm and grow from within strategy sounds a noble gesture, I wonder if its all that sustainable?
