Kearns To Retire

Robbie Kearns has indicated that he will retire from rep footy at the completion of the Test Series against Great Britain - which is the first time an Australian team has beaten the English in the first 2 games of a test series over in England in about 15-20 years. He said something about some good youngsters coming through nipping at his heels and he was getting too old for it or something. But unless he's talking about Kirk Reynoldson, there's no-one younger that comes close to his ability.

coming from anyone else, i would have ignored this post, but....

he is quite old, and you are right, we dont have the forwards to fill the big boots left behind.

good luck to him, he has been a stalwart, but i wish he had announced this earlier, so we had a chance to buy up in the meantime.

i hope alex chan can come good for us

got a link to a story, LR?

Yeah dat's right, he will be playing for the Storm for the next 2 years, but won't play Origin or Kangaroos matches from now on.

Good decision I think, he will be able to offer that little bit extra to us now.

Brad Fittler's played extra-well since retiring from rep-league, so I think Robbie's making a good choice!!!

No link. Was what he said in an interview after the second test match. Although I think I may have also read it somewhere also, I just can't remember where.

You might want to edit the title of this thread because I have a very worried few seconds when I thought you meant he had retired for good.

Everything was going through my head - perhaps he's had enough of getting smashed in the tests!!!

Good on him for retiring at least he wont get injuried playing rep football.

It wasnt as though he deserved it this year. I hope Kirk gets his chance.

Kearns was quite good overall this year though. Alot of his rivals did fall - Stevens was once only second to Webcke but he was pathetic this year.

Premier League Soccer and the NRL are far from similar but there are ways you can make comparisons to this kearns situation. Take Alan Shear Newcastle United striker for example. Use 2 captain the poms, one of the best international footballers of the modern era, but while his international career was on a high his club footy sufferd, but now as he has reitred and his club form has been the best it has ever been Shearer is a mean machine, same effect could happen to Kearns.

I have always been a fan of Kearnsy cuz he is a prop who never gives up and dont take shit, there should be more fowards like him in the game!

i think by the time he retires for good our foward pack will be much stronger
with reyno and sarg showing some form and with chan joining the ranks also.

i cant remember properly but im pretty sure that chan was in good from before he broke his arm...

Sarg has gone to north queensland mate, assuming you mean Mitchell Sargent, so he won't help strengthen our pack
