typically you single out july, and a non NRL match at that.

in 20 years time, RL will be played 3 times a year (by professionals). NSW v Qld.

Not to mention that with the MCG redevelopment the AFL missed out on the 80-90 thousand crowds they get for games between the bigger Vic clubs. And that the average crowd for AFL is double that of NRL despite this.

Geez Syphon, such an upredictable argument. RL games have got those crowds that i mentioned before. You want to dispute any of them?? NRL/NSWRL...your being pedantic and a royal dickhead

Solon, i really couldn't give a toss who you are, but i refuse to talk to a coward who hides behind another nickname

Hey Syphon you clown, why can't we add Origin in overall arguement against your AFL mob?? It's part of the domestic league schedule and one of the several things the game has overall over your poor excuse for a sport. I mean when is the tight short brigade ever going to learn to pick the bloody ball up. It's a rabble on most occasions. Most of the time it's just kick and hope.

What was the swans average crowds last year? got as low as 15,000-16,000 didn't they? Lucky there was 54,000 v the bombers earlier in the year for the AFL opener at Stadium Australia. Novelty factor at the time much like the Suncorp Stadium opener which you AFLers like to point out. Pretty poor figures for the only AFL show in town??

i dont know what the swans average was... but i do know their absolute lowest crowd would have been around 16,000. you mind telling me what team you go for? i'll put money on the fact that they dont have as much support as the swans, or any other AFL team for that matter

Take out Sydney and the fact that Collingwood will probably win in week 1 and Essendon will go out, and you are left with a situation where the Swans will play a Fremantle, Brisbane or Adelaide. Tell me how big their fan bases are in Sydney?

What would a Sydney/Fremantle game draw Solon? Under 60k? Isn't 60k the breakeven mark for AFL at Stade De Oz? Think it is mate, in which case, the Swans would make a loss on the event

That said, your monetary argument is perhaps correct. Unless the Dogs played the Eels or maybe Roosters, we wouldn't crack 40-45,000. But will the Swans necessarily crack that record by such a large amount, particularly if they play Fremantle?

looks like they will be playing essendon. The decision looks justified.

Stadium Australia needs to look after the AFL. thats where their bread is going to be buttered for the next few years. If the swans become any more popular, or with a second sydney team, the ground would be hoping for a match there very regularly. League crowds (barring SOO and GF's) are simply not going to make the venue any money.

NEWSFLASH: the game in question is NOT a state of origin or a grand final. where has the precedent been set? Swans will EASILY outdraw the bulldogs. there is no denying that fact, and thats why the stadium chose the AFL match. The Bulldogs adopted the showgrounds option for two reasons.

1) to save face from being directly told by stadium management that they are not the preferred choice

2) if they were to play at Stad Oz, and get a crowd around 35,000 (for an elimination final), they'd be a laughing stock. better to claim a sell out at the showgrounds.

I don't have another nickname, but I can see how convenient it is for you to say that I do.

SA say they didn't decide one code over the other as you claim. If you doubt me then contact them yourself.

Now, 6/8 of the finals AFL teams are from interstate. Take out Sydney and the fact that Collingwood will probably win in week 1 and Essendon will go out,

5/7 now and have a little more faith in the Melbourne powerhouses......

Collingwood may get done but after the weekend it will be two Melbourne sides versus 4 interstate sides...

& using Swans crowds from games against sides such as Richmond last eyar is stupid when we're talking home and away games between two sides not going to play finals.... The bandwagon element of your city will jump right onto the Swans when they play their home final.

Can you explain the relationship of these statistics to the expected crowd of the bulldogs game next week? And what crowd would you expect the bulldogs to get if they played at SA instead of the swans?

Im just saying that league has given SA a lot more than AFL has. The NRL have given them many big crowds (a lot more than the AFL), and i thought such an important relationship would've taken priority over a code that has given SA only one good crowd

Mel - You are alive! cant believe the bombers got up, i backed them last year in a double with the Roosters and if they win it this year then i will be really filthy.

Solon - you know that i have done a sports management degree so u obviously have been around a while, as i haven't mentioned that recently. I don't care who you are, i really don't!

Yes, I've read a lot of your posts on a few different fora but I've not posted before.

So... let me recap. You don't care who I am, but until you find out you don't want to address any of the counterpoints I raise to your argument? It's a bit of a strange sort of not caring, but whatever - if you prefer to leave my assertions unchallenged it's entirely up to you of course.

Fair point. But in the end the bulldogs made the decision for them.

It's more a case of which will give them the bigger crowd next weekend, not at any time in the past.

At the end of the day, Swans vs Essendon will make more dosh than the Bulldogs game.

And really that's all management care about.

They're a business, they don't do favours.

At this point it looks like Sydney may be hosting a preliminary final.... you gonna tell me the crowds wouldn't show up for that???

GO YOU SWANNIES, sorry mate but the only thing more evil in Aus sport than the maroons are the two Adelaide  footy sides!!!

60000 easy closer to 70 if they play the lions

also seeing the swans got up why dont the dogs move their game

I think they will Scottie... Can't see Adelaide winning a final in Brisbane. So they will most likely pack the place out... The NRL would be hoping like christ they can do the same thing.

The AFL are going to love it if they don't as both the two biggest stadiums in the country are going to be jam packed for their preliminary finals. In Australia's two biggest cities.
