France is Smelly scored 5 in a final, was done in the NRL two years later.

The moral is, only desperados seeking their 80 minutes of fame bother to score more than a hat-trick. The truly great players don't bother.

Top notch thread, weeded out those who are missing half a brain or don't have a sense of humour.

Who was it that scored 4 tries for Gold Coast on their 1st grade debut?

And what happened to them?

David Williams scored 4 tries against Pawwa last year. He went on to have a shocker in the GF, subsequently got dropped to NSW Cup, then got suspended for the remainder of 2014.

Had Brett Stewart not been hurt for the length of time he was he might of challenged the record.

I reckon Slater is still a huge chance. 166 tries, 31 years old. 47 tries to go. If he scores at his current rate he'll need only 83 games to get there. So 4 years from now, he'd be 35.

He'll get close.

Irvine was not a patch on another Australian, Brian Bevan, who scored more than 700 tries. I watched Ken play when League was something you played in your spare time, forwards defended and backs attacked. Even in the '80s professional players like Steve Mortimer were brilliant cover defenders, Ken wouldn't have had it so easy. To get close to Irvine numbers today would be more of an achievement than anyone imagines

He could add the try scoring record to the his record of most incidents involving attacking the head of a player with your feet overlooked because it's not his go.

No way. He is 31 in a position that age is harsh on and even if the storm are willing to back him until 34(another two seasons), he still needs to score over 40 tries. Considering he has never, even at his peak in a cap cheating team, scored over 20 tries in a season, its just not happening.

He'll need to start scoring at a better pace this year.

Maybe if Melbourne let him stay on as a winger or something until he is about 36.
