NRL obviously have some kind of random punishment generator coz buggered if I can figure it out.

They should bring the wheel out on telly then and let us all watch. Bit like Pluck-a-Duck and the old Crack-a-Fat. See the suspense on a player's face as it slowly ticks to a stop - life ban? 2 weeks? Thai rehab?

I'd watch.

Who names their son Kenny.

Mr & Mrs Edwards, as well as Mr & Mrs Bromwich. At least. Oh, and that police koala's parents.

It's quite funny.
Majority of those in the Eels forum are saying he deserves to cop a huge punishment.
Those neutral fans on here seem to be treating this like the joke it is.

Personally, there are two influential organisations that are to blame here.

1) The Catholic Church - and any church that condones the gathering of people for the purposes of instruction in the dark arts of fluid assault. These sick organisations gather en masse to practice proper technique, and always have a newborn or young child handy to assault. The Royal Commission is going to hear about this.

2) The motor racing fraternity. These guys have been perpetuating this practice for as long as I can remember. Again, and this seems to be a pattern I notice. A large, often huge crowd gathers as these so called champions compete for the right to be the lucky three to carry out the assault. Then, in front of possibly thousands of spectators, these chosen three are given large bottles of assaulting fluids, whilst usually three (one each you see), young ladies are led up to stand behind them and made to clap whilst these barbarians assault them. Often they try to run away, but usually one of the brutes cuts them off, assaulting them further. To make matters worse, often this is televised around the world to millions.

Clearly Kenny is a motor sport loving catholic!

There are a couple of posters in the Eels forum asking for a massive penalty, but basically they continually ask that the sky falls in on the club, sort of reverse fandom

The majority of fans want Edwards to be treated as if he was a Broncos player, that's not going to,happen, but we have no faith in Greenberg or the NRL so anything could happen, should really get no more, than 2 weeks and a lengthy suspended penalty, but who knows. No one is hurt, the partner has acknowledged there is no further issue and the magistrate said it wa a minor incident and the person should be given assistance to move on with his life. In Greenberg language he will probably get some ridiculous suspension to satisfy some outraged lobby group who look at the headline not the incident itself

Just started following NRL this year did you mate ?
Hahaha no, probably naively have a misguided faith that the NRL won't make a big laughing stock of themselves for a relatively minor incident.

Seems their bread and butter. Can't see them missing the opportunity.

Bring on The Wheel-O-Punishment! Simona to Thailand and Edwards to the firing squad.

Just on The Wheel-O-Punishment - anyone know what John Burgess is up to these days? RL can always do with another Burgess. If Adriana is unavailable we could get Julie in there to co-host.

Sadly yes.
I would say Greenberg risked losing credibility over this if the punishment was over the top, but you can't lose what you don't have.

The full text of the statement -

The Parramatta National Rugby League Club Pty Limited (the “Club”) has reviewed the legal situation of Kenny Edwards. Based on an incident on 11 December 2016, Kenny Edwards was charged with “common assault domestic violence”.

We think it is important to provide relevant facts and some context around this situation, as there are many factors to be considered. Throughout this process, we have had meaningful dialogue with the National Rugby League (NRL) Integrity Unit, the Rugby League Players’ Association (RLPA) and Mr Chris Orr, Kenny’s manager.

The summary facts are as follows:

During the course of an argument between Kenny and his ex-partner, Kenny sprayed water from a water bottle onto her face and body. Kenny returned a short time later and, whilst still arguing, poured the contents of a raspberry vodka cruiser bottle over the complainant and the bed.

Kenny’s lawyer and the senior prosecutor agreed to a guilty plea, whereby Kenny plead guilty to common assault under Section 10 and no conviction was recorded, with a good behaviour bond for 6 months.

Since the time of the incident, our Club has, through our Club’s welfare staff, supported both Kenny’s ex-partner and Kenny by arranging counselling and providing general support. As noted by the court, Kenny has and continues to provide significant financial support for his entire family.

Any reasonable analysis requires recognition of the fact that Kenny has prior incidents in his Rugby League career. This history has been continually emphasised in discussions with the NRL; the NRL had, following the 2015 incident, warned Kenny that, as a repeat offender, he would be looking at possible de-registration by the NRL if he committed any further conduct that bought the game into disrepute.

It is also fair and balanced to point out that Kenny is a respected member of our playing squad and regularly contributes to the community activities of our Club.

It is our Club’s belief that we have a strong “duty of care” to our players. We have 3 full-time welfare and leadership staff dedicated to our Players. The welfare programs in place at our Club are excellent.

In summary, our Club needs to:

· show support to Kenny and his family from a rehabilitative perspective – he is part of our Parramatta Eels family; and

· exercise fair and reasonable discipline in order to reinforce to Kenny that we all need to take personal responsibility for our actions and behave to certain standards in accordance with our Club values of Integrity, Respect and Excellence.

This balance can be difficult, particularly considering all the factors and circumstances in this situation. Our Coaching & Recruitment Staff have planned our playing roster with Kenny included as an important Player in that roster; our Club has been weakened by not having Kenny available to play and, understandably, our Club and fans are disadvantaged.

The Club is of the opinion that Kenny has acted in breach of his National Rugby League Playing Contract (which covers the 2016, 2017, 2018 & 2019 NRL seasons). Under this Contract, the Club is permitted to take action including, but not limited to, caution, reprimand, a fine, suspension or termination.

After much deliberation, our Club and the NRL have agreed on the following action:

1. Suspend Kenny Edwards for the following matches:

· The first seven (7) matches of the Club in the 2017 NRL season.

Kenny Edwards will not be permitted to play in the Club’s NSWRL Cup team during this period but will be allowed to train with the NRL and NSWRL Cup squads.

2. Fine Kenny Edwards an amount of $60,000. This fine will be deducted from Kenny’s NRL Playing Contract over the 2017 & 2018 seasons so as to ensure Kenny and his family have sufficient support.

We will also ensure Kenny engages in appropriate counselling, as sanctioned by the NRL, and also have him continue to perform community service, as directed by the Club.

Kenny’s manager, Mr Chris Orr, has been involved in the discussions around this case and Kenny and Mr Orr have accepted the above action by the Club and the NRL.

Yours sincerely,

Some dating show on Seven last night the couple were siting having dinner and the lady had a hissy fit and threw something at the dude before storming off. I think it may have been a napkin. It look confronting, maybe even menacing, at the very least humiliating for the dude. I am just going to assume she is locked up in prison somewhere so the community is safe.

Holy f**k. And that punishment came from the club.

Probably went hard to prevent the NRL coming over the top with further punishment.

Edit: just saw that it was in consultation with the NRL.

What a joke.

He was found guilty of assault, gotta do something. You have other people calling for life bans on any DV.

Keep in mind that on precedent he could have easily been fined double and spent longer on the sidelines without even committing a bloody crime.

Good result from the Random Punishment Wheel
