It's sad for any family to lose a loved one, and it is sad when it happens around Christmas.

Kerry Packer was a well liked man, regardless of how much money he had.
Liked by whom???You???

who gives a sh*t, he was lucky enough to be born into a wealthy family, why deny him solely because of that?

he was a great Australian

Do great Australians avoid taxes?

Sad to see him go, a keen supporter both as a fan, financially and innovatively with cricket and rugby league. Also an astute businessman who's business savvy created jobs for many in this country.

RIP

I fail to see how its sad, this guy never wanted for anything.

Ex employees dying form asbestos disease is sad.

Kids dying of starvation is sad.

Old people dying and not being found for weeks is sad.
Agree. This spontaneous outpouring of regret every time someone prominent dies, I just don't understand.

This guy has held Rugby League to ransom for years. Why should I miss him again?

There is a thousand or so former meat workers at Rockhampton (the beef capitol of Australia) that won't miss him either.

Lock outs do scar peoples memories.

That was Kerry was it??? I never knew Kerry ran News Limited

You guys are being disrespectful, mainly because he was successful and rich. He donated absolute bucketloads to charity, he was a great man.

No one in business is a 100% cleanskin but thats the nature of the beast. His heart was always in the right place, if you have nothing to say then please, don't come in here bagging him off

The amount he gave for what he had would be the equivalent of me putting 20cents change in the Ronald McDonald house as I leave with my large quater pounder meal.

I agree

It's wrong to speak Ill of the dead. Especially when there are a lot more positives than negatives.

cough cough *tax deduction* cough cough. Seriously it's end of an era. He was feared by many but you have to respect the man for what he has done for tv in Australia and in particular the game of cricket. A great business man and a visionary. Hard to feel sad when rich billionaires die in their sleep whilst children are dying from poverty all around the world. Still, he was a man who commanded respect.

God I hate when people come out with this garbage. You're saying to him it would be like 20 cents, but unlike 20 cents, the millions he donated would've made a f**king huge difference. Who cares if it wasn't alot in proportion to what he earnt? Did you expect him to end World hunger on his own? He was never obligated to give a cent to charity, and even if it was for tax purposes I'm sure the charity's of whom he gave millions of dollars to wouldn't mind either way. If you were begging on the street what would you rather.. an unemployed single mother gives you $10, or a billionaire gives you $1,000. Wealth : donation means nothing, the sheer amount is what counts.

The big man did great things for sport in Australia?? Or did he do great things for his bank account? Roy Masters just said that he won the first league deal for about a million bucks, about 10 percent of its real value. So was he procuring a good deal for himself or benefiting the league?
He had the pollies in his pocket, little john came out today with a stirring eulogy, which would have been more deserving for a mother theresa figure. He had buissness acumen yes, but he didnt save lives, he didnt devote his life to helping others.Yes he did support his charities, but Kerry giving a million was like a battler from the west giving a dollar without the tax benfit.
I never met the guy,so its not fair to put him down but in Australia we tend to put these guys on a pedstal and we lose sight of the real heros: the guy who works in the factory, those who drive fire trucks + ambulances or perform a public utility.
Yes he did make most of his buissness dealings in Australia, unlike his competitor Rupert.I think he enjoyed being larger than life in Australia, the big fish in a small pond.
But you know its funny, we are all born with nothing and die with nothing. Kerry now has the same as my deacesed grandmother and grandfather, nothing.
Did he contribute to Australia? Yes--but so do many others who do it without treading on anybody else and have nothing to gain from their efforts except personal satisfaction.
But are my negative vibes, due to his loyal support to the CHOOKS????
