R.I.P.

A great man and a great leader of the game of Rugby League

You're kidding.

Quote from the Australian:

But he was forced to re-sign from all his sporting portfolios in early May 1983 when a Four Corners investigation alleged former NSW Premier Neville Wran had influenced a 1977 court hearing against Humphreys, who was charged with misappropriating money from the Balmain Leagues club, where he was secretary.
The Four Corners report by report spawned the Street Royal Commission and led to the jailing of former NSW chief stipendiary magistrate Murray Farquhar for perverting the course of justice.

Mr Wran stood down from office until he was cleared by the commission.

These are exactly the sort of people we need OUT of rugby league.
No tears from me.

Regardless of his flaws he also bought the games administration forward into a semi professional era and was one of those behind the S.O.O

So for those heinous crimes he gets no sympathy from you.

Classy.

One thing to keep in mind, Humphries helped to start SOO but he NEVER wanted it to take precedence over test football or club football.

Amco Cup was probably his best innovation. Prior to its introduction, the only Rugby League on TV country areas was on the ABC.
A couple of years ago, Graeme Hughes did a great interview with him. 2SM may replay it tomorrow,

Are you kidding me? He was in charge of a 42 man board full of cronies and thieves, that rarely put the game before their own interests. I know I lived through that terrible, terrible era, and I nearly gave the game away back then because of it.

He may have been the smartest man in the room, but so are the Banksters on Wall St and look at what they have done to the world, which by the way, they haven't finished with yet.

yes I remember that 4 corners episode too. I don't think I was that old, when was it? early 80's or late 70's. Humphries resigning brought in the Arko period. I actually think that was the start of a very good period for RL. The late 80's is probably on the true golden eras. Only Superleague ruined it.
