Anyone hear the rumours (again) that Locke has come back heavier, not as fit as expected and with an attitude ...

rumour only but from an internal source.

Its not a rumour...

He has been overweight for months ...before he even broke after they dropped out of the season. So the warriors wouldnt of been suprised...

Its not like the players dissapear for months...they would of seen him 2 or 3 weeks ago.

He had bad injuries..and clearly didnt manager them correctly.

Long off-season . . .plenty of time to get back into shape.

I honestly think people need to give the bloke a break...If he doesnt peform in training - he wont get picked next year.

If he is fit and firing ...he will rip up and reclaim his kiwi jersey.

F***ing oath could not agree more. Is not the first bloke to come back a bit unfit and certainly will not be the last. Hell he could even be bulking (lol). But seriously he's got plenty of time to get ready for the season.

I see him as one if our most important players. The best kiwi fullback in the competition a full season under his belt in the position I think will see him absolutely dominate.

I couldn't give a monkey's what his tits look like now. Sounds like Lieutenant Carl Jennings is ripping into them so if he's fit and firing by March, that'll do me. As for his attitude, if he wants the No.1 jersey and good contracts down the line, he'll pull his head in. If he wants to go the Faumuina/Taulupapa etc route he's welcome to.

The next part of the same rumour is that the club would not hesitate to off load him ... seriously close!

please ...they struggle to find talent
No chance of offloading him yet..

They might relegate him to vulcans...or potentially hold on to him for a mid-season swap at best

Keep Locke please, just give him a hard preseason and make him too tired to go out and drink and get into trouble, simplistic I know.

Kevin Locke skating on 'very thin ice'

Warriors player Kevin Locke is skating on "very thin ice" with the club, due to his numerous driving convictions, a court has been told.

Locke was sentenced today in Auckland District Court to 80 hours' community work for a third driving offence.

He was also fined $1400.

The 23-year-old earlier pleaded guilty to a charge of driving while disqualified, arising from being stopped by police while driving in Ponsonby in May.

Locke's lawyer Sumudu Thode told the court Locke's career would be in jeopardy should he be further disqualified from driving, and therefore he sought a community-based sentence instead.

"His position with the club is going to be compromised and Mr Locke is very aware that he is skating on very thin ice in respect of these charges."

The court was read extracts from a letter from Warriors' management which said Locke could lose his NRL playing contract should he be disqualified again.

It would not be feasible for the club to continue to make excuses for Locke's inability to fulfil his contractual duties, it said.

Ms Thode further submitted that it would be detrimental to Locke's mental health.

Police accepted that the conviction would also impact on his partner and their unborn child.

Judge Ann-Marie Skellern found that Locke was eligible for a community-based sentence.

"I accept that previous disqualification has not had the desired effect," she said.

She also took into account the "very real likelihood" of his loss of employment and the effects of disqualification on his pregnant partner.

She also accepted that he was going through a "difficult depressive episode" at the time of his offending.

In January he pleaded guilty to two counts of driving while disqualified and was fined a total of $900 and banned from driving for a year.

The maximum penalty for driving while disqualified on a third or subsequent occasion is two years imprisonment or a fine of up to $6000, as well as being disqualified from driving for a further year.

Locke was first banned from driving in December, 2010, and the following month he was pulled over driving south of Whangarei.

He told the police he did not know he was a suspended driver, for which he was charged with giving false details to police, but that was withdrawn.

Just over a month later he was again caught driving while suspended.
Too soft?

I reckon if he played for a Sydney team he'd have been driven out of at least two clubs by now thanks to the Aussie media.

Locke needs to pull his head in fast. It looks to me that he's a highway to being out of the Warriors... he needs to see this as a lucky break, that he could have lost it all (let alone be a danger on the roads for other motorists), and realise how close he is to being a bricklayer because no club wants to touch him.

"differcult depressive episode".
we all had these watching them play last season

Elliot should come out and say hes number 25 in the squad and has to work his way up. Fish should be given first crack.

personally i would of torn up his contract

Sad truth is, if it was a less critical member of our team, they probably would have been booted. Locke is very important to our future, and every time he gets away with something this is reinforced. I hope there was a serious behind-the-scenes "last chance" talk given to him...
