Two 7am Sunday AEDST matches for the Roos which is pretty good. And a midnight QF kickoff if we win Group A.

Just saw this.

Very happy those two Saturday night matches we play are later in the evening, hence the 7am kickoff over on the east coast. Very happy with that and will definitely be waking up to watch them. Opening match against England is at 12:30am, which is also convenient.

I see we will play either the winner of Group D (if we win our group) or 3rd place from Group B (if we finish 2nd). This will largely depend on the result of our opening match vs England and whether the Poms can pull off an upset.

Finally, be interesting to see whether Ch9 will take some of their commentators over to the UK. They have used their commentary team outside of Australasia (or more accurately, Australia and New Zealand) since the 2000 WC (where Vossy and Gus called the Semi-Final and Final).

As an aussie, I was very surprised with the amount of early arvo matches. It is something that would never happen in Aus.
Evening games tend to be a good night out as far as entertainment goes, but the footy is so much better during the day. Well done everyone.

Funny that a certain magazine editor (or writer?) is harping on about the large amount of 8pm kick offs, saying that it won't make it in the next day's newspapers.

I just found the contrast so funny, and typical of rugby league. Half full vs half empty.

It's going to be the best mother f**king rugby league world cup ever! Let's stick with that notion and tell everyone in the world! I know I've been telling everyone i talk to, and their first reaction is "does rugby league have a world cup?"

Although it will be much better than the 2000 WC, will the crowds eclipse the 1995 WC?

I think they'll go close. A few of the matches in 1995 that attracted between 2000 and 8000 will go closer to the 10k mark with the amount of local support.
France playing 2 matches in France should attract 15-20k.
While England's matches should be sell outs.

A lot rides on whether England can win the final.

And a wembley semi final means really strong crowds for both semis.

The big question is... How big will the Limerick crowd be?

Agreed. That indeed is the big question. It seats 26.5k with a seated capacity of 15k. Given it's a night match, I hope the weather is good that day otherwise that may deter quite a lot of potential fans from going.

And a wembley semi final means really strong crowds for both semis.

I was initially critical of the semi-finals being a double header at Wembley rather than at two separate venues. However, the more I think about it, the RFL made the right decision to play the final at Manchester in rugby league heartland. Wembley would've been too much of a gamble and would've hinged heavily on whether England made the final, otherwise the crowd could've been...you know what. Hopefully it will have a similar atmosphere to the '92 and '95 WC finals held there.

As long as England make the semi-finals (which they should), Wembley will draw a big crowd. How big of a crowd is anyone's guess. The loser of the opening match between England and Australia will most likely have the more difficult semi-final against New Zealand and the winner will get the easier semi-final. The 2011 Wembley double header got 42k. If we get at least 60k - which would be an average of 30k per match - that will be a good outcome.

Regarding the final at Old Trafford, if England make it the crowd will definitely be in the vicinity of 65-72k (which is what Super League grand finals have drawn over the last decade). If they don't make it, I'm hoping we at least get 55-60k.

You would really hope not. They would probably send Tim Gilbert.

Looks around 2,000 tickets sold far from ticketmaster.
