The Gutho yarn is just that
Flanno has repeatedly said we are desperately chasing a hard nosed forward leader/prop
Talk we are close to signing a "gun forward" hasnt materialised yet , but we wait patiently
More chatter around a QLD landing spot for BH and a likely replacement appear higher on the pecking order
The RCG chatter has gone eerily quiet
With the only story doing the rounds being JAC journos are scrambling with to fill content in newspapers
Hopefully we can officially Land n Release some soon

Missing RCG has really thrown us I reckon.. I think we had him banked and that would have been enough to kickstart 2025 straight away... now we got to hunt for someone and I reckon we will get a very inferior product.

The Hunt stuff I suspect was also unplanned.. and it involves a trade.. which means there are only a couple of possible candidates.. if we cant get those trades over the line.. we're gonna have to keep the pr**k.. cant even play him @9 either cause we got 2 now.

On top of that we got rid of Webb and hearing more to come.. essentially we're doing a good job of getting rid of all the deadwood (not to be harsh on webb there, but you know what I mean), but its attracting talent in thats proving an absolute mess.

Listen, Hoops, Crawley and Co at Fox Sports love bagging The Eels, according to them Parra is a basket case and players are all trying to jump ship. It's their favourite pass time...
With the young under 23's fullback of the year coming in Gutho is the perfect mentor to assist the transition into first grade, while playing at 9, 13 or 14.
Ryles has already stated he wants Guthos DNA as both player and inspirational Eel.
If you get RCG he will help the engin room fire up each week.

So, what's happening with RCG?

Is he definitely not coming to us? Is he going to the Tigers? Are we waiting until his manager caves in to what we want?

Things are very quiet with this guy. He quit the Eels and we all thought he was headed our way but that seemed to have been nipped in the bud when Flanno said they couldn't agree with his terms and for the Dragons to move on.

I have a strong feeling that he just might be coming to us.

Both RCG and his manager might think they are in the box seat, and maybe they are but for the moment no other club has come to the party with a 3 year offer and I'm sure Flanno wont cave in. Our club had plans he didnt want to match up to it, then see yah, we move on with Flanno slamming the phone down in his managers face, well deserved I reckon.

Unless RCG's options all dry up.. I dont think we get him.. but if its a question of UK vs Dragons..then maybe discussions start up again.. its an interesting situation given RCG has been released, so its not like he has a fallback.. the way Brad Arthur spoke.. it made it sound like wherever it was.. it was a done deal.

Note that despite 'being released', I mean the new nrl contract would surely have to still match the existing value... there is not some magic loophole for rich clubs to get big name players for cheap.

With Brad Arthur saying that RCG would do well in England it looks like this is not all working out the way RCG and his manager planned.

Crazy prediction, Gutho at 6 and Captain, RCG at 8. Hunt gone. It aint perfect but it solves some problems. New coaches like new captains without baggage.

What gets me is the stupidity of it all. Here we see RCG kicking that conversion. Everyone knew he was exiting the Eels but wouldn't you want to have been signed, sealed and delivered before you even attempted to kick that goal. He thought he had personally reached his goal and his manager didn't seal the deal.

It' s like me telling my boss to get effed thinking the grass was greener on the other side and once that boss tells you that he is glad that I quit and tells me off, I go to that greener area only to find that there is no job and then I have to apply for the dole and getting pittance when I could have been earning a fortune by staying at the previous job.

Don't count your chickens before they are hatched RCG - have you not heard of that saying?

We need specialist halves, not a utility

despite various Forum members bagging Flanno Jr during the season, he is a better half than Gutho and significantly cheaper

the season collapsed once he was suspended

No NRL club is going to offer RCG a three year deal on his current rumoured $750k a season value. If Parramatta was chipping in some freight, then maybe it's a different story? But they are not. Despite the other rumour that he also bought & moved into a property in Camden this past year, which would have had us in the box seat as a landing destination, it appears the ship is sailing towards the UK now.

As for Gutho - have been a fan of bringing him onboard at the right price, in the right role, and not at the expense of our current crop of players including Sloan.

Though, I think this is all paper talk from certain journos who have an agenda against the Eels.

I wonder if Flanno wants Gutho for Right Centre, with Suli taking Lomax’s spot as the power right wing? I’m assuming Flanno may have reservations about S Fione (sp?) injury record.
With Holmes and Tuipolotu on the left side

Flanno may also have other plans around Suli spending more time on the edge with Su'a and possibly Luc spending more time in the middle?

While I don't think that's the best use of the three players mentioned above, if we can't get a middle forward from the market we may be forced into something like this until we see what 2026 will bring us - be it our younger forwards coming through or finally being able to get some traction in the market.
