It's very left-field, but if Gutherson was our '3rd' half instead of Marshke.. I could see how that is a tremendous boost in terms of our 2025 team.. but his price is much higher also.. it really only makes sense to me if Gutherson was our 2026/2027 half or 5/8.. sort of an upgrade on Bird, Marshke and/or Schuster.. LKT @19yrs old I think is developing in nsw cup as injury to cover for a range of players, hookers, halves etc.. maybe even centre.

I think we could do with some of Guthos attitude.. he turns 30 in a few weeks.. which is old or young depending how you look at it.. if he could play halves or centre its probably fine, I mean good halves are still peaking at 30-32..

Probably wouldn't be playing him at fullback though due to his injury rate.. though tbf he doesnt seem to have missed as many games as we all assume, hes going to finish with 21 this year also:

It all depends where Shane thinks he could play him.. for me I'm not in love with him as a signing, id prefer a 7, but if he wanted a 2yr deal, maybe even 3.. I can see the logic.. im fully supportive etc.. some risks from Parramatta though I must say to get rid of Gutho and RCG... their squad just needs a coach.

Agree with what you are saying Rev, but I dont think it justifies the cost of having him, he could quite easily break down within months of getting here, plus he already has injury issues.

After watching his non-effort to chase down and tackle Tristan Sailor it's a yeah, nah from me. Unless, with Bird probably leaving, we are obliged to have at least one has-been with dodgy knees on the roster.
Totally agree.

When a winger or fullback gets beaten on the outside (especially on a narrow blind) it's time to retire or shift position.
That was the very first thing I thought of when i watched it.

And my mind went straight back to Michael O'Connor saying he knew it was time to retire when Willie Carne beat him on the outside in a SOO in 1991 albeit he was marking him as a winger.

He played on for Manly for another season but in his traditional role as a center.

Just need to suck it up with Sloan for the rest of this year. Next year with VH coming and Corey Allan back there’s a few more options to play with. Not Sloan’s best game today but give the kid a break. He’s out there, you’re not
Yep, im as always one of sloans biggest critics, but for this season hes the only choice.. we need him to have atleast 2 more good games... next year they can duke it out.

Sloan’s defence was very good yesterday

yes he dropped some high balls

much easier to out jump a stationary player when you are running forward

The dude is not Langlands or Goodwin or Johnson

They too made mistakes

The spotlight is aimed at the kid because let’s face it what else do we have in attack ?

Hunt ? Bird ? An exhausted Liddle who tackled his arse off yesterday and eventually gassed out?

Sloan is not the only player who made mistakes yesterday

The team in general came out very flat

The weight of expectation was too much for an ordinary over performing team to manage

The metres made by the Cronulla pack really says it all

We were hopelessly outgunned up front

Better times ahead as we recruit some better players

For the record Shane Flanagan is not the problem. He is part of the solution.

Thats why Flanno is looking for big boppers. He knows we are lacking up front. Hence why going for rcg and trying to move on Lawrie to get another like Horsburgh.
After props then its another speedy back
Then a half next year for the top 4 push

Sloan is a Josh Ado Carr winger.
Put the king at the back and organise the team.
I say this - watch Sloan at the back. He is nervous
He is better in all aspects but he is a step behind in reading the play.
Boys look for yourself.
I’d have Gutho.

Still the love for Sloan, interesting.
I just don’t see it, fans sure are quick to rush to his defence, sweeping errors or poor decisions aside and focusing on the positives.
Maybe I’m wrong, I often am, but I don’t think Sloan is our fullback next year.

Sloan to me has got the first half of next year to show improvement, if he doesn’t the club should start pushing for another fullback , perhaps hoping one of either Fa’alogo or Paps gets pushed out of Melbourne

Look for Holmes at fullback and Allen at left centre if we have everyone available in 2025.
Sloan needs time in the KOE Cup to fine tune and toughen his game up several notches.
Not to mention the need to cut back on the errors.
Think he will continue to be a work in progress next year.
One thing Gutho would do is help get our defensive structures in order.
Gutho comes across as someone who would be ruthless in his approach to cut back on our at times insipid defensive efforts.

I’ve been a critic of his but to be fair to Sloan, this is his first year under a good coach and immediately he’s 30-40% better than past couple of years. That’s progress. Remember he also missed the majority of off season training due to injury.
A better off season, the will to learn and improve and another 20-30% improvement could see a very good first grade fullback.
