King Kong - brilliant or just too damned long?

I saw King Kong last evening... and despite it largely being awesome, it felt like it really needed someone to jump in and tell Peter Jackson that 3 hours + is just too long.

On three or four occasions I found myself bored, usually because some crazy fight scene had dragged on for far too long. The fight of the Tyrannosauruses was ruined because it seemed to never end. Even when Kong climbs the Empire State Building, you start hoping for the planes to just get the job done with, rather than circling and circling... and circling... and circling... and circling and circling and then circling some more.

That... and way too many lingering poignant moments!

Jackson, show some restraint you crazy man.

Score: 3. Should have been 5 though, with half hour edited out.

Peter Jackson is under the impression that if he makes he films go for far longer then nessesary that they'll be labled 'epic' and therefor, good.

just wait and see what happens when i tell EA you blurted the end of the story

Surely everyone already knows the ending to King Kong?

I thought the movie was great. The only bit that dragged on a bit was the start, takes about an hour to even get to the island.

I had planned to go and see this after work, but if it's over three hours I probably don't have time to do that *and* pack for tomorrow. Ah well, it can wait.

It's far too long. Lord of the Rings was a good length, but this was unecessarily long. I haven't met anyone who has seen it who wasn't bored.

In my view, the first hour of the film was useless. The film should be mostly about Kong and the girl, not about how the crew went about getting to the island to film the movie. That could have been done in half an hour.

The effects were good, but I felt that at times they were a bit gluggy...You could clearly see that the humans were juxtaposed onto the green screen. In the scene where the brontosauri are chasing the humans, it seems as though the humans are not in the same space as the dinosaurs...To me, at least.

I did, however, really enjoy the difference in how the girl reacts to him. In the original, she was petrified of him. But in this version, she empathises with him and develops a strong connection with the beast.

Also, I thought Kong had great character for an animated gorilla.

Overall, I'd give it 4 out of 5. And three of those four stars come from the brilliant gorilla alone!

Brilliant or just to long????

Abit of both.

Brilliant and a tad too long. What seemed the useless part of the stort to me was
the story between the cabin boy kid and the "bro" on the ship.
Without the story of that stupid kid would have probally cut back 15 minutes of the movie which would have it at about 2:50 minutes which is a tad better.

I was happy with the ending and the start, even the trip to the island.

Its better then a 4 but not quite a 4.5 so I'd give it 4.2 out of 5.
So far its the movie of the year for mine.

I think the part on the island was pretty darn good, fight scenes went on a bit though. When they went back to New York it turned into a chick flick IMO, and completely sucked.

Will never watch it again.

Jack Black is good.

But it's hardly what you'd call an Oscar-winning performance, or role for that matter.

He's good, though.

I love the gorilla - Kong has loads of personality.

I thought it was great.

I liked the fact it was 3hours for me it was either gonna suck or not, with it being 3hours long it gave me a chance to know the charracters a little more..i get into movies more when i feel i can at least read each charracter.

Kong was awesome, i hated him dying but i knew it was gonna happen, i never thought id be cheering on the CGI the way i did.

Jack Black was awesome. He basically had a simple role - to make you despise him. And he does that beautifully.

I didn't mind the start so much, and I can understand why Jackson filmed it that way, building suspense for the first appearance of Kong. I thought the back and forth stuff on the island was too much. Should've cut out that snore-fest of a scene with the giant bugs and killer worms. The brontosaurus run was also too long, for mine.

I managed to catch the last half (Started watching when Kong was in a fight with the dinosaurs) and I must say it was a great movie that gave me different emotions.

Im a bit of a sucker when it comes to sad movies, it almost brought a tear to my eye.

Great movie.
