Went to the KOL gig tonight in Sydney..

Love the band immensely and the music was sensational. Just think the night needed a bit more atmosphere. The quality was great, just lacked a little something..

Anyone else go? What did you think?

Up in the mosh pit I had no complaints :D

But I get what you're saying - they're playing stadiums now but they're still doing virtually the same show as when they started out. They are great performers but at places like the Entertainment Centre that's probably not enough for the folks way back in the cheap seats. Caleb is talking a bit more now though, granted. I think if they want to head down the U2 road they need to spend some more money on the theatrics...

But as I said in the first line I thought it was great.

Was there on Wednesday.... loved it.

I thought it was funny with the two girls in front of me knew the whole words to Revelry, but had no Idea about California Waiting or Knocked up.

Yeh for a mosh it was also a little subdued as well I thought.. But when the music is that great, it's hard to be disappointed. But I like gigs where bands mix it up. Play some of the songs different, throw in an acoustic version, whip up a drum or bongo solo. I'm not that keen on the theatrics.

I saw Incubus at the same venue years ago and they mixed it up sweet.

That freestyle bluegrass ditty they played in the encore was pretty cool.

But yeah, I feel KOL are kinda caught in the crossroads a bit, live-wise... wanting to be the raw rocknroll band with mad songs and musicianship and nought else, and wanting to be the behemoth worldbeater playing stadiums. It's a tough balance to strike. Don't want to go into lemon territory, or the Spinal Tap stone henge...

Chili Peppers faced the same problem touring By The Way. They were fkn huge then and chose a ridiculously huge venue - the SFS. But they got it pretty much right with the show.

Apparently those sorta fans were in the majority at the gigs.
I figured it would be like that.

Have you heard King of The Rodeo covered by melbourne band The Bamboos?
Its really different but pretty cool at the same time.
