Kiwi squad for the WC defence!

I heard a pretty shitty rumour today that the NZRL were supposed to do the naming of the squad today but they put it off until 2moro because Kearney had a meeting this afternoon with Khoder Nasser about SBW's availability.

I really hope that's a load of horse shit...

Goodwin surely has to be in now after SKD's injury.
I would say it depends on the prognosis... If it's a hairline fracture that could be 2-4 weeks... The squad could carry him for the early part of the tournament...

Whare and Inu will be in the mix also...

Mannering played at centre in the last World Cup final and played a massive part in that victory... He pretty much shut G.I down.

He can play there...

What's wrong with that?

Goodwin is crap.

He tries hard to bat above his weight...and had a good run a few years back and has put up his hand this year.

Would of come close - but was a liability in the big semifinal loss.

Just a player who doesnt have that much tlanet

It's unprofessional and degrading to the jersey.

The Kiwis jersey is the highest honour for a New Zealander in rugby league and the naming of the squad shouldn't be adjusted in order to fit in with meeting a player and his manager.

They should have put a deadline on declaring availability before the first batch of players were added to the train-on squad.

I don't mind the coaching team paying extra attention to SBW to get him in the side... But they needed to put a deadline on it weeks ago.

It's farcical... And quite frankly pretty sad...

If he doesn't declare his availability then that's fine... But they just pick a date and stick with it.

I know the all blacks wouldn't delay the naming of a squad for that reason....

The Kiwi's don't have the pull that the AB's do. Like it or not we need SBW more than he needs us. If delaying the squad by a day means we give it a good crack of convincing him to play then I'd say it's worth it.

He would be the difference between us being a decent chance and a very good chance of winning the WC.

You don't need a player that needs to be convinced to play for you. Kiwis already have a great side without him, one that I think is a lot better than the 08 side that won.

The manager shouldn't even be involved... Kearney needs to ring him... Ask him if he's available.

If not... Move on...

He won't be the difference between us DEFENDING the World Cup or losing it.

I emphasise defend... Because we won it without him and we can do it again...

I posted this in the Tongan thread...

Apparently one if the Kiwis bolters is Sam Moa... A shit decision for Tonga.

I really feel for them as they stuck pretty strong with him when no one else were keen on him..

Now he comes good in the NRL and Tonga don't get to reap the rewards... Horse shit if you ask me.

The really sad part of this is the kiwis don't even need him... They will likely drop Mckendry for him...

A joke IMO...

No SBW. Moa and RTS are the uncapped players in the squad.

Jeremy Smith out due to personal reasons too, massive loss.

Pretty surprised to see Locke there. Also FPN has been out of the reckoning for a while, but I guess not a surprising selection. Happy Inu is there and SKD isn't. I'm sure there will be some angst about no Horo but I'm not really fussed. Happy with no Proctor. Moa over Rapira and McKendry I guess I'm sort of meh about in terms of the ability of the players, but couldn't we have picked someone who isn't tied up with another nation.

Moa is unlikely to get in the final 17 IMO. JWH, Bromwich, Kasiano and Matulino should be the 4 props picked.

Is there more to this than meets the eye? Richie Barnett and Kearney have pretty much been saying all year that SBW probably won't play. His reason for missing the ANZAC test was also pretty lame. I just can't understand why he would pretty much go out of his way to avoid playing for the Kiwis? Maybe the Kiwis hierarchy don't like his attitude and haven't actually been encouraging him to play?
