you're a moron advocating violence and then abusing anyone who dared question it. instead of constantly abusing people how about you counter their arguments? this thread is full of you making assumptions and calling people names then getting angry when anyone tries to question you

Russell Packer denied bail to attend rehab

Thursday 30 Jan 2014 6:13p.m.

By 3 News online staff

Jailed former NRL player Russell Packer has been denied bail in a Sydney court hearing this afternoon.

Packer was sentenced to two years' prison earlier this month for assaulting a 22-year-old man outside a bar in Sydney's CBD last November. He punched his victim, Enoka Time, several times before stomping on his head. Time was left with two facial fractures.

Packer, with a new lawyer, was seeking bail in order to attend rehab for alcohol abuse and mental health issues.

His lawyer also told the court he is considering an application to change Packer's plea from guilty to not guilty, saying Packer received bad advice from his first lawyer.

He says his client was told he had no choice but to plead guilty because he had kicked Time while he was on the ground.

In sentencing last month, the judge described Packer's actions as "cowardly" and "deplorable". He was subsequently sacked by the Newcastle Knights, without playing a single game for the club having signed a four-year deal at the end of last season.

An appeal against Packer's assault conviction will be heard in a fortnight.

I don't know shit about jail and bail and all those things. When someone is not out on bail does that mean they are sitting in a cell in a cop shop somewhere?

That's right.

He's currently in jail serving his two year sentence. If he got bail, he would get out of jail and stay out until his appeal.
