He stomped the merkins head in after caving his eye socket in. Poor merkin is lucky to be alive.

f**king putrid merkin is getting off easy imo. Makes me sick that there are players online supporting this merkin.

This.

Players will not learn unless they are dealt with as harshly as possible.

He shouldn't be allowed to play in the NRL after he gets out.

poor guy. was the most promising young prop a few years ago. now his contract won't be registered and he'll be going to jail.

still, only got himself to blame

Didnt you really get stuck into him when he pissed himself?

Now he beats the piss out of someone he's a 'poor guy'.

Anyway I might be thinking of someone else but I seem to remember you were really offended when he pissed himself on TV.

seems the NRL knew more about the details than the paranoid people on the interwebs

The NRL Integrity Unit are given a fairly good run down by the police regarding incidents with their players. Hence the reason why Ben Teo was allowed to continue playing after his alleged incident. There wasn't much to worry about there.

In this case, Doyle was obviously told in detail about the incident (or as much as he needed to hear) and acted accordingly. The unit has strong ties with the police.

Can someone answer me this? Me knowledge of these things isn't great.

So I just real an article saying Packers been sentenced to two years jail. It then said his legal team lodged an appeal and applied for bail which the prosecution didnt fight, which is where my question comes in:

So is he eligible for bail pending the outcome of his appeal? Like he can be found guilty and sentenced to jail, lodge an appeal straight away, apply for bail, and be out that day(if the judge is willing to give him bail)?

yes that is correct. if the prosecution opposes bail on x grounds then the judge can decide what to do with him (bail, imprisonment, take his passport etc).

edit: ok it seems it was denied by above posts. suck shit merkin

I remember when he pissed himself someone on these forums said he seemed like the kinda guy who'd be fun to go drinking with until he decided he didnt like you anymore.... i remembered that post when this incident first came to light

not that 2 years in gaol isn't a worthy punishment for what he did (stomping a bloke's head), seems pretty at odds with the soft sentencing we normally have in NSW which sees people who bash someone to death receiving only a couple years more than that.

Perhaps this is a turning point for how the courts are going to deal with drunken violence from now on?
I'd rate what he did as attempted murder. I think a 110kg+ athlete stomping your head into the ground is far more likely to kill then someone coming up and "king hitting" you.

Especially when the head stomping is after he has already beaten the guy up to put him on the ground. If anything 2 years isn't enough. The fact the guy isn't dead is just an extremely lucky and unlikely outcome IMO. At the very least you would expect that much force to cause brain damage, skull fracturing and leave you pretty messed up.

It is most definitely more harsh than normal ,But considering all of the king hits and alcohol fueled violence of late this sort of sentences should become the norm.
I know of a young fellow who went out with his sister ffs and a group were trying to bonk her so he just told them to cool it in a club, the lads go thrown out and waited for him and his sister to leave and beat the crap out of him in front of his sister.
Two of them were charged and got off with a bond each , we are all sick of these sort of leniency.Disgusting

I guess it may be more harsh then normal but the same can be said that his violence was more harsh then normal. If He cowardly king hit someone he may not have intended to cause brain damage if the victim hit their head on the ground... but to me this case is worse as he had already knocked the man out so what other objective was there in punching him further while unconscious and then stomping on his head but to cause the most physical damage possible.. what type of disturbed human being does that shit. I cant believe there are nrl players on tweeter defending this, its just sickening :(

100% right.. its only luck the guy survived serious injury or death , even though the f**king gorilla made every attempt to try inflict it !

Agree that he deserves every bit of his sentence, and would have no issues with a harsher sentence.

I just wish this same judge was presiding over the cases for the various king hit f**ktards that have killed/severely injured people recently instead of the soft touch judges they got instead.

Also add Charlie Gubb and Joel Romelo to the list of idiots

Hope the 2 ciggies were worth a year each in jail Russell

Godinet and Nuuasala have deleted their tweets. Clubs should come down hard on players supporting Packers actions.

I think we can all agree that this is a bad situation and that Packer is getting what he deserves. probably less then what most of us think.
but to try and see some positive from this, the Integrity Unit being provided the information and acting in a swift professional manner was good to see. As was mentioned in other posts penalties for criminal behavior were so up and down with the previous management.

Add Gerard Beale and Ben matulino to the packer supporters

Apparently because he has two young kids he shouldn't be sent to gaol

Just look at this:

Mr Grogan told the court that Packer punched the man in the face, causing him to fall and hit his head on the ground.

Packer punched the man several times as he lay on the ground and then stamped on his head, the court was told, leaving the victim with two fractured facial bones.

What a disgusting piece of dirt this bloke is, go enjoy pissing in a cell for 2 years you low life.

And I can't believe some footballers on twitter are supporting him, what if he killed the guy? And if they want to say but he has kids, maybe he should have thought about that before he did what he did, not really setting a good example for your kids to look up to.

What picture do you reckon the news outlets are using of Packer? That's right, the one where he's pissing himself on the field.

Well done to the judge/magistrate........for finally handing down a sentence.

Now if they only do the same to all these thugs who bash innocent people with cowardly hits
