Typical ho hum round 1 performance in the robbo era. I'm not going to overreact to a round 1 loss but a load to work on for next week.

I said in the main thread that I personally expected the attack to be clunky. The keary/walker combo will take time and Watson will need to find his feet at hooker.

I thought goal line defence was reasonable, 2 of their tries were fortuitous but our sole try can be described the same. Defence on the edges in between the 20 metre lines was dire and needs drastic work.

Discipline and ball handling was awful.

All in all it was a very trial Luke performance and I expect drastic improvement as the season progresses. I also think losing radley was disastrous.

On a positive no major injuries so ill take that. We are notoriously slow starters under robbo and always come good so see no need to not believe the same will happen this year at this stage.

Agree with all @Valheru comments except the ‘ho hum’ description of our round one performance. Reckon that was our worst performance since Anderson was coach lol. But no panic from me. Not yet. They definitely looked underdone and playing on a warm afternoon plus an HIA to a key player exasperated things to an embarrassing level.

At the ground, it felt like the Teddy no try decision swung momentum and we never got a look-in thereafter. Regarding our halves combo, the consensus amongst my mates and I was that there was a feeling of 2018 where Cronk and lesser extent, Teddy struggled to settle in at the beginning. Keary/Walker looked like they just met but I’m confident they’ll get it together to become a formidable combination barring injury of course. Lacking an effective hooker didn’t help either. Again, Watson will need time as well. Verrills becoming more and more injury prone (thumb?) is a worry also.

Discipline an issue again regarding behaviour and ball control. Haven’t seen a replay yet but do we have concerns for Rads and Collins being placed on report?

We were very ineffective across the park yesterday so picking three players that disappointed the least. Memory lacking in a game I want to forget also.

Momirovski was terrible yesterday, seemed out of position a lot.

Do agree though that after the Tedesco disallowed try the Roosters never looked likely.
Luke Keary's first game back in about a year so going to cut him some slack and it will take a bit of time for him and Walker to develop a partnership

Thanks Horrie, was sat high up, couldn’t see most of the numbers and terrible view of scoreboard plus beer goggles. Wanted to sit at Paddington end. Bronze members could sit there pre covid but they wouldn’t let us in yesterday. Can’t wait to get the f**k out of the SCG. Anyway, I thought Momo saved a try in the southern end? , I’m letting him keep his point for encouragement lol.

He did save one try but his attempted arm grab on Bradman Best led to a Newcastle try, probably worse out there than him but he still was very ordinary.

It was bad but not worse since 2007 bad haha.

2016 had some shockers and we all forget it because it worked out in the end, but first 8 rounds in 2018 had some woeful performances and the parallels to that season are pretty stark for me at the moment. Not saying we will win the thing but vast improvement by round 25 is on the cards.

I think robbo will be most disappointed in the defensive effort between the 20 metre lines. He specifically said defence was the number 1 area they worked on in the off-season last week. As soon as he said that I knew we would struggle offensively for the first part of the season, that is robbo 101. He will be filthy this week and we can only hope the players respond otherwise we will find ourselves out of reach of the top 4 before we know it.

It was one of those days yesterday
Took me two and a half hours to get to Central from Mona Vale.
Then the ground was sectioned off so everyone was crammed into certain areas while others sat empty.
The food / drink outlets were mostly closed and those that were open were rammed
Then on the field our performance was as disorganised as the catering
An 8 hour round trip to watch that (not that I could see anything from 8,000 miles away)
I can think of better ways to spend a day.
We are rusty and have so much room for improvement.

SST, Collins and Crichton were our only forwards over 100 metres. Manu and Teddy ran out of defence a lot and saved tries but didn't have opportunities in attack

I must’ve really switched off on yesterday’s game. My memories of SST was of a lot of dropped ball. Welcome back to the forum, it’s been a while.

I was on the beers at Randwick Bowlo from 11:30, so take these with a grain of salt:

3 - SST
2 - Toops
1 - Ted (I guess)

Can't disagree with most of what's already been said.

Do they actually train with a football during the week. They have terrible ball control and set completion rates notwithstanding the high error and missed tackles count.

Not going to win games if these are not addressed
