Knights Drama

I don't necessarily agree with all of Gardner's decisions but we need a hard lined approach, I mean if this was under Matt Gidley and Hagan's watch everyone would've gotten 4 year extensions and pay rises and they'd all be singing cumbia regardless of how many wooden spoons
Is whatever Gardner is or isn't doing working?
That's the test.
As CEO he isn't immune and must have some accountability. He does audits each year but who audits him?
Sometimes when you roll a head you show nobody is immune.

The board at wests 'audit' him but his performance isn't based on what the knights are running on the ladder. Gardner has been CEO of wests group for 26 years, to say he's entrenched is an understatement, I understand to you and me the knights are a massive part of our lives but to wests group directors it's a very small part of their overall business. I mean the annual profit generated by the knights makes up for about 7% of the overall bottom line for wests, it's a very small part of their overall business. If wests group continues to turnover $150-$200 million of annual revenue which they've done for a few years now Gardner is safe as houses.
The thing we need to understand is the knights don't own Wests, wests own the knights

I hope this gives us an insight into what Gardner is
All about. I have heard everything from he is a very smart operator but not cut out for NRL level issues to he is as ruthless as Politis when needed.

As someone who works in the same industry (registered clubs/hospitality) I can tell you he's a fairly highly regarded CEO and all round businessman, he's often asked to speak at industry conferences especially in regards to diversification (expanding a club business beyond just pokies and schooners of beer).
In terms of running a football club I would imagine he doesn't really have a whole lot of day to day operational involvement given how big wests group is and how thin he'd be stretched just looking after the hospitality side of the business. For what it's worth the structure of having a group CEO in charge of football as well the registered clubs is not unique to us, Panthers have exactly the structure as do the roosters and sharks just to name a few.

Seibold is taking over the teams defence according to Toohey in the Herald.
Always seemed an odd choice having him as a coaching ‘advisor’ when the guy clearly has more credentials than anyone else on the staff to be Adam’s assistant. There will be many sceptics but there will be no doubt that Siebs will be putting his all into this. Could be an ace up our sleeve.

I like this way of thought but I also worry with how he left the Broncos, what way do our players perceive him?

I hope it works out because I do think he's one of the better young coaches but last year is as ugly as it can get for a coach.

The Broncos culture is utter ratshit. The players run the shitshow up there. I'd rather look at how he went at Souths.

Good to hear because he seems very knowledgeable on his show. Also, what was he doing prior to this week?

Could be wishful thinking but hope he puts pressure on AOB to drop the players who are defending badly.

Maybe so but perception is reality sometimes. But I hope you are right and he is able to get our guys going.

Would like to know what input he's had so far as Yoshie said, and how it's been welcomed.

I started my own business 10 years ago (officially opened 30 April 2011).... my business turns over more than the Knights.

Footy clubs are actually quite small businesses in total. They just occupy massive emotional space.

Great way to waste money though.

100%, I work for a large leagues club group with associated to a NRL team, a few years ago the football club CEO tried to throw her weight around when the leagues club CEO put her in her place by telling her she runs a $10 million a year business whilst he runs a $100 million a year business

Question: why isn't Joey working with our halves? Seems to be doing a great job everywhere else...

To be fair our halves (besides Crossland) are all pretty old, I mean how much more can you teach Green and Pearce?

There is a strong argument that the club is at an all-time low. We now have everything we said we needed back when we were getting spoon after spoon. The club has money, big name players, a coach from strong systems, reputable staff etc. They've all had time to gel but still look lost. Players are not just failing to improve, they're regressing en masse at the Knights. The club has no identity, no leadership and no idea generally. Back when the spoons came we had a less than reserve grade standard roster, the club was broke and we had coaches who were "good blokes". Yet somehow we're as bad as ever.

I hate to love this club.
