Uate i think is a bit inexperienced for first grade just yet, how many premier league games has he played? like 5?

Snowden and brown will get a run when theres an injury.

Tolar, one good thing about signing Sargent as this guy gets pushed down the order more lol. Is he even signed for next year?

I can't believe a lot of you people. Has mullen not done enough this year to be infront of gildey for 5/8???

OMG!!!!! i agree!!!!! i am so sick of michael hagan and many other footy fans saying that kidley still deserves five-eighth over mullen.

its absolutely riduculous, i think that kidley should end up playing lock. he is ideal for it, if he put on sum weight he could end up a great no.13

1. Thaiday (He has the potential to be the best fullback in our team, but only if his form allows him. If not then drop him for Hinton)
2. Carmont (Has improved dramatically, but i still cant see him being a prime centre, will do well on the wing)
3. MacDougall (Has been whinging to be back at Newie, hopefully it means he will be playing his heart out week in week out. Top notch centre if he plays)
4. Tighe (Under Smith i can really see him becoming one of our top players, future rep maybe...)
5. Hard to say can be anyone really (any of the new signings, or Uate, or Hinton)
6. Mullen (Without a doubt)
7. Johns (Paring with mullen will combine to be the best halves combination in the comp)
8. Perry (My fvourite prop in the world for some reason. I think he can play rep next year, might get chosen to play for Aus this year i think)
9. Buderus (Combining with our halves will be amazing to watch)
10. Woolnough (I thought he would never cut it to be a good starter but proved me wrong, we have an amazing front row including him now)
11. Simpson (Pure gun)
12. Newton (He is quiet dynamic, which is something the rest of our forwards lack, adds spark)
13. Kidley (I have always been a fan of smaller locks who have great defence and can act as an extra playmaker. He is a great runner and can offload to)

14. Davico (Stability for the team, adds great mentality as well for our other front rowers)
15. Sargent (He is a good impact benchie isnt he? Could be wrong about this one)
16. Abes (hmm... I know he is a gun player, but he is too fat atm for my liking. Would love to see him lose some bulk, add to his speed, and then without a doubt will be pushing both Simmo and Newton for a starting spot)
17. Brown (Can seroiusly play anything but prop. Has a wicked step, when against tired forwards can rip them up. Tad bit weak in defence but i think its the same thing with Carmont, will improve dramatically)

Rest
Ryneldson (everyone has been saying he has great defence etc etc, but i still dont think he offers enough compared to others)
Tanner (Just not enough talent)
Snowden/Tolar (Maybe enter the team half way through the year if they improve enough)

THE OFFICIAL PERFECT TEAM!!!

I don't know what side Brian Smith will select. I daresay the team will change as the year goes on with the likes of Uate, Snowden, Patterson etc forcing their way into first grade calculations.

Smith loves to try new kids ... eg T Smith in 05

I see Snowy getting a go on the bench.... and Patterson will be in calculations as well.

I'll be a bit odd and experimental with mine.

1: Kurt Gidley
2: Adam MacDougall
3: Bradley Tighe
4: George Carmont
5: Milton Thaiday
6: Jarrod Mullen
7: Andrew Johns (c)
8: Josh Perry
9: Danny Buderus
10: Adam Woolnough
11: Steve Simpson
12: Clint Newton
13: Daniel Abraham

14: Mitchell Sargent
15: Daniel Tolar
16: Luke Davico
17: Riley Brown

I've stuck with Kurt at fullback for a few reasons. I doubt his ability to get big enough to make a decent lock, and given the options of an injury prone Seage or a defensively deficient Thaiday, I'd prefer Kurt. I think his last two games have been his career best. A backline with Mad Dog and Thaiday on the wings would give us two explosive wingers who aren't afraid to look for work. Carmont and Tighe in the centres to give us some spark. Polglase and Franze can earn their chance.

The halves speak for themselves, as does the front row. Woolnough and Perry's end of season form has been top shelf. The back row is self explanatory, and I've gone with a (hopefully fit) Abraham in the #13. He played his best footy there a few years ago and I think he can go there again with a good off-season.

It's a front row heavy bench, I know, but there's the flexibility there to allow Simpson/Abraham/Newton a break. Davico could easily go for Reynoldson or Tanner. Sargent and Tolar give us two relatively young, aggressive props with experience to draw on until the likes of Snowden and Patterson are ready to step up. I've gone with Brown strictly for impact reasons. Somebody like Quigley or a pacy back-rower could take the place easily.

I've seen enough of Uate to say he will play firstgrade early next season - and will be a sensation - think of Jarrod Hayne - only bigger, stronger and faster.

Paterson, Snowden, Ling, Natush and Wooden will all play firstgrade in the trials - and could push for firstgrade spots during the year.

The same Jarrod Hayne that Brian Smith refused to run because he wasn't ready? One worrying thing about Smith I've heard this season

This is the side i think we will see by mid way through the year.

The team to start with may have Reynoldson, Brown, Davico, Franze etc in the team and may have Woolnough starting but by mid season i reckon Smith will bring up new blood in the likes of Snowden, Patterson and Uate - and trust me - they'll be sensations.

1: Milton Thaiday
2: Akuila Uate
3: Bradley Tighe
4: George Carmont
5: Adam Macdougall
6: Jarrod Mullen
7: Andrew Johns (c)
8: Josh Perry
9: Danny Buderus
10: Mitchell Sargent
11: Steve Simpson
12: Clint Newton
13: Daniel Abraham

14: Adam Woolnough
15: Cory Patterson
16: Kade Snowden
17: Kurt Gidley

I'll call it now, if the likes of Davico, Tanner, Brown, Reynoldson etc are anywhere near that team come the finals then we can expect a similar performance.

We need a new culture brought into this club...we rely on the raw talent or individual brilliance of a few players to carry incompetent and inept first graders - players we will never win a comp with. That was painfully clear to see last night - absolutely polaxed by a true finals team.

It's time Smith made defense a priority and it's time to build a premiership winning team with soem new blood. Uate, Snowden, Mullen, Patterson - that's the future.

Why are people so keen to shift Carmont out to the wing? His performance this season have been excellent and you don't lead the league in dominant tackles by being a weak defender. As much as I hate to say it, he'd be wasted on the wing. I'd rather see Tighe out there where his more obvious defensive inadequecies aren't so evident.

As for Davico, if he trains hard I wouldn't mind seeing him in the side at season's end. If you look out our 1997 and 2001 premiership winning sides, both had experienced, no frills forwards to draw on. The side RABK's posted is top notch, but aside from Simpson and Buderus it has next to no real experience in the pack.

Carmont was very good on the wing his first year here, I think Doogs would serve us better at centre than Carmont. Tighe on the other hand has had some forgetable games on the wing. I just think Doogs would get the ball out to his winger a lot better than George does. At the end of the day though it's just an opinion.

carmont has improved alot, however if you watch him still doesnt know how to create space for his winger. And personally any centre who cant create space for their winger then pass the killer ball, shouldnt be playing centre. Midley is a great example of an excellent centre.

IMO I can't see Tighe (on his 2006 form) being considered for a first grade spot. His form simple doesn't warrant selection unless he he can turn it around in the trials. Granted I'm still not convinced about Carmont and I'll admit I'm no fan of his and like many I called for his head a year or two ago but he's played strongly this year and deserves to retain his spot in the centres. If anything I'd put Polglase in the centres before Tighe.

As for Kidley, he needs to get the ball in his hands as much as possible considering how elusive he's been in attack recently and at either 5/8 or if Smith is adament at playing Mullen there next year, kidley should be shifted to fullback on a more permanent basis rather than centre they way to chime into the backline similar to what he did against Manly in the finals.

As for Thaiday, he strikes me as a real confidence player (similar to Tighe) when he's hot he is hot but when he's spent a number of weeks on the sideline with injury and developing self doubts about breaking back into the team, he needs time to adjust probably more so than others to get his head in the right place. Maybe a week or two in premier league might have done him some good if he hadn't re-injured himself instead of throwing back straight into first grade against Manly because given how he played in that game, you could tell he was lacking confidence in a few decisions he had to make in defence.

By the way, it's just occurred to me that Chris Bailey hasn't appeared in anyone's selections or notable admissions from their side chosen. Has he just been oversighted or has he been released because I was under the impression that he was signed for next year??????????

I wouldn't be surprised if Smith plays him off the bench. But he is a bit less versatile than Brown so that pushes him down the pecking order a bit.

It is hard to say what Smith will do about Thiaday in the #1. Smith has always been a fan of specialist fullbacks because of their safety. It is possible that we might see Hinton being bled into the top grade next season.

It is also possible we will see big strong outside backs like Smith seems to like. Franze and Doogs could be playing wing while faster nuggety bastards like Tighe play center. Uate WILL be making his debut next season.
