Knights Ticket Price rort

Just wondering now that the new stadium seating is finished and everyone has had a chance to check it out. What are your thoughts on the pricing of the seats.

I did a little research on this topic and the raw data is as follows:

To sit in a seat on the try line in the eastern grand stand: $24
To sit in a seat on the 10-20m line in the eastern grand stand: $30
To sit in Western Grand Stand Lower: $38
To Sit in Western Grand Stand Upper: :$44

I compared these tickets to similar tickets from 3 other clubs. Souths, Sydney city roosters and Cronulla.

To sit in a seat on the try line in the eastern grand stand:
Souths: $14.90
Roosters: $20
Sharks: $20.50

To sit in a seat on the 10-20m line in the eastern grand stand:
Souths: $14.90
Roosters: $20
Sharks: $20.50

To sit in Western Grand Stand Lower: Representing Newcastles 2nd premium tickets.
Souths: $21.80 (Souths top ticket price. 50m line seats)
Roosters: $25.00 (Roosters top ticket price. 50m line seats)
Sharks: $36.50 (western Lower 50m line)

To Sit in Western Grand Stand Upper: Representing Newcastles Premium Tickets.
Souths:$21.80
Roosters:25.00
Sharks:$39.50 (sharks premium tickets 50m line western upper)

So for a seat on the knightys try line eastern side: min $3.50 Max $9.10 dearer.

For a seat on the knights 10-20 line eastern. min $9.50 max $15.10 dearer

For a seat in the western GS lower: min $1.50 max: $16.20 dearer

For a seat in Western GS Upper: min $4.50 max: $22.20 dearer

Finally Brisbane no doubt have the best home ground stadium in Australia. Yet their premium ticket is $41.50. Newcastle still charge $2.50 more than even them.

My own personal opinion is that Newcastle is now the most expensive team to go and watch play football. Considering we still only have a half completed stadium in a traditionally working class area these prices are outrageous.

NB: all above prices are from ticketek or ticket master 7 and include additional fees associtated.

Maybe it is a supply/demand thing? In general I don't think that Souths, Sydney City and Cronulla have that much hope of filling their stadium.

I agree it sucks given it's predominantly a working class area. When I was a kid there was no way we could afford to go the footy so I really feel for those families that would find those prices prohibitively expensive.

On the other hand, the team needs to survive financially. If not, there's no team. Simple as that.

They survived financially when the tickets were $15 fine. Why should this be any different. The stadium was funded by the state gov so its not like newcastle knights have to repay them.

Fact is Knights took the ground entry price to get in and sit on the 50m line on the hill and cos your in a seat, doubled it.

I might be wrong here, but my understanding is that capacity is going to be a lot less now that the stadium has seats.

Astro: Currently the ground holds 23,000. They used to stop letting people in at around 25,000 pre-development.

So for the 2,000 people decrease knights increase ticket prices by double?

Look, I'm not denying that the ticket prices are high.

I'm just trying to come up with an explanation. I mean, is this a discussion topic or simply a Knight76-soapbox-gripe topic?

If you are correct that for a 2,000 decrease in capacity (i.e. 8%) is on par with a doubling in prices, then clearly I can't explain that completely. The fact that most patrons will now get cover over their heads goes at least a little way.

No it isnt a soap box episode. But i cant justify the increase in prices. You said the stadium dosnt hold as much, i just pointed out it isnt actually that much less which cant be the reason for the price hike.

Ooops I think I came across a little grouchier than I intended.

I love the team, but ultimately the Knights is a business. I have a background in finance and (without looking at the numbers in detail) I probably have a tendency to think in a business kind of way.

Dont worry astro. I didnt think you were being grouchy.

I guess my point is why so steep an increase. Its not like we have a world class stadium/facilities. I would have thought a more sensible pricing policy would have been the go.

Whats going to happen when the next tier gets added? Or when the rest of the ground is grandstand? If they think the current stadium warrants this price what will the finished stadium seats go for?

The ticket prices are excessive. The best promotion for our game is capacity crowds. Full houses mean good atmosphere which in my opinion means a more marketable product.

I hate seeing empty stadiums throughout the NRL games and believe that it is something that comes across as making the game look unpopular.

The league put on promotions a couple of rounds through the year to try and entice people through the gates, but the simple answer is to drop the ticket prices and watch the joint fill up.

I just bought 5 tickets for this weekends game in bay 2 in the eastern stand. And @ $21 a ticket it leaves a rather large hole in my weeks budget. These seats are not undercover and it is only the recent weather that we've been having which makes me think that we will remain dry. But if it was to rain heavily we would probably pull the pin thus throwing away a load of money.

The most dissapointing thing is my dad took me to nearlly every Knights home game going back 7-15yrs ago as the prices were much more reasonable and the place had atmosphere as it was accessible to people on lower incomes. Unfortunately I don't think I will be able to take my young bloke very often as I simply won't be able to afford it.

Put simply, rugby league is a very marketable game. But charging big bucks for tickets is not the way to go about it.

You watch the Sunday Footy Show when they show some of the old comp games at the SCG when they were getting 100,000 people. It would be interesting to see what it was costing them to get through the gates

I love the Knights but am growing increasingly unfond of the administration.

It is cheaper if you get a season ticket ,and you can pay for it in installments on your credit card. :D

That's what I do anyway .

I purchased a family ticket in the eastern concourse on the 20m line which costs me approx $50.00 a game. If my kids dont come then I can have adults use the tickets for a cost of $13.00. So its working out okay for me.

It does look expensive, but at Aussie stadium they charge more for food.
I have a season ticket at a students price. I couldn't be bothered trying to figure it out though.
The Hill prices are the still the same arn't they?

As if you would want to pay that price to go to Scum Park. EAS is miles in front of that ground.

If you're going to the footy you pay for it .. no matter what the cost.
