Smithy has gone and bought up a lot of second string players with money the club probably doesn't have. He is prompting those players to justify his expenditure at the expense of Newcastle juniors and known players. Smithy names a 20 man squad, but have a look at the teams that actually take the park. The true Newy supporters are fooled.

I was in town on the saturday night after the game. I had my Knights Jersey on and been from sydney I was very suprised how many people who live up there hate the knights. These people are ages 18-20 like myself, apprently it's the in thing for them to hate the knights.

it has been for a long time to be honest... i remember in high school in newie i had myself and 1 other knights supporter in my class.. and the rest despised the knights, or were disinterested in league altogether. this came as a huge shock for me (who had moved back from lightning ridge that year) too. might i add this was when the team was in it's absolute prime in '01 -> '03.

what it all comes down to is marketing i guess. the knights are seen as uncool, and thus are not embraced by the young community.

I don't know if it is still the case, but i'm pretty sure the deal has always been that the teams who play saturday night get extra TV money to compensate for lower crowds - so a 17k crowd on saturday night is probably fine.
