the defence in the second half was just awful. that gap up the middle for barrett to score - why not just give him a written invitation to the try line? the defence of round one has disappeared.
Absolutely - don't ask me where all our players went in that situation.
Michael Young had one mistake that may marr what was otherwise a good game from him. It's pretty tough coming into first grade as a starting fullback, and performing in normal conditions let alone slippery ones.
Ordinary performances from Carmont, Hall, Matt Gidley and co - they looked like reserves out there today, but for contrasting reasons:
Carmont's ball security is a worry - it's the first game I've seen of him play and first impressions tell a pretty interesting story - he's sus when he has dodgy players around him. IMHO he was made to look good when Johns and co were giving him good ball - a couple of decent steps or a lazy defender and you're in. Today he looked out of his depth - hopefully not a sign of the future.
Hall - someone please explain to me why you leave a grubbering ball to be scored off when it is right there in front of you....... based on form Hall's position is dicey, very dicey.
As for M.Gidley - where was he? He had the ball a couple of times but just wasn't involved. I thought his passing game might have either provided for an expansive backline passing movement (ala Johns) or perhaps those sneaky pop-passess would find runners like Kennedy, Abraham or Richardson - we saw nothing of the sort, he looked ordinary and unwilling to be involved - merely a middleman on the road to defeat.
Great performances from Buderus, Kurt, Young, Richardson (when he wasn't dropping the ball), Lowrie, Abraham, and to an extent Kennedy. BK was targetted and the lack of other big men like Parsons didn't help him shrug off the extra defenders.
It was a concerted defensive effort from the Dragons - they shut us down, capitalised on most opportunities, and exposed the Knights' premier leaguers as being incapable of playing with the big boys.
But worry not - the John Hunter rugby league team is looking better than our current side - you take 8 players out of any first grade team, from key positions, and I'll bet no side could compete with the Dragons today.
Good signs for the future though - big wraps for Young on debut.
