remember it like it was yesterday... rudder falls 1m short, fitzgibbon scores the next play... (oh wait that was 2002 LOL)

2000 the play that stuck was joey chip and chase, regathers... rauhihi in support then BOOM... luke phillips wins the game for roosters

anyway got tickets *rolls around shivering in excitment

Ppl talk about that Fittler intercept as the turning point. Actually, the turning point was in the 50th min. We completely dominated them in the first 10 mins of that 2nd half, but a dodgy penalty by Bill Harrigan against Billy Peden for not playing the ball correctly was clearly the turning point, as the Roosters scored their first try directly from that penalty and that was the beginning of that infamous "3 tries in 5 mins" blitz that won them the game (also, the Roosters 3rd try went a MILE forward, but the video refs somehow rationalised that it went backwards off the hands. One of the watershed moments that led to video refs no longer being able to rule on forward passes, Thank God for that).

Regarding that 2002 game, yes, we had to weather very intense periods of attack but still managed to keep the score at 6-all in the 58th minute. Rudder made a line-break from the scrum, and feel AGONISINGLY short of the line. Fitzgibbon intercepted a tackle or two later, ran 95m to score and then the Roosters went on a try-scoring blitz to win 38-12. Had Rudder scored in that play, we would've ended up winning by a scoreline similar to 38-12. That was one of those 'make or break' moments. RL can be a cruel game sometimes.

Haha true Tim and i thank him for it... but Joey actually made the call in the sheds after the GF. To which we all believed - self included. This is nothing against Roberts btw... merely having a joke about Joeys praises!! Hope he stops praising Aku too... He's been brilliant since gone under radar!

Ugh, I was lying in a hospital bed in Adelaide listening to it over the phone because they didn't have the game on live. Worst feeling ever.

Oh man, that's gotta suck. Feel sorry for ya

2000 PF was the most heartbreaking game in knights history no doubt

The most poignant memory from that night was at half-time, my dad was going to ring up Ticketek to order GF tickets and I told him not to because there was still another 40 mins to go....really put the mockers on him:lol:. When we were down 26-20 in the last 10 mins, he walked out of the room and started crying. He just couldn't watch it. I still remember the photos in the newspaper the next day of a disconsolate Johns boys, and Tony Butterfield in tears in the dressing room. We had a better line-up in 2000 than we did when we won the premiership the next year. I feel we fell one premiership short during our peak (either 2000 or 2002 we should've won as well).

All was forgotten the following year when we went to the Q/F and we knocked out the Roosters 40-6, and then won tickets to GF and went to that too....very late night out as a then-14 yr old. Can't remember what time we got home at after going back to Marathon Stadium for the celebrations. That was one hell of a mad week!

Roosters got a visit from ASADA at training today for some random drug testing. Hopefully puts them off a bit mentally with two of their players due to be interviewed.

Saturdays date is significant, the 28th of Sept.

Good things happen to the Knights on that day.

TBH, Jennings and SKD can be pretty average defenders. It's important we draw them and isolate the winger, get Gagi or BJ on the outside, Boyd on the inside. Jennings needs to be watched though. Don't give him enough space to go for an intercept because most of the time he'll get his hands on it. Back up whoever gets through and simply draw and pass on Mini.

Easier said than done but that's how I'd like to see them attack the edges.

Jennings is an excellent defender, leagues ahead of SKD at least.

Maloney is the other major chink in the armour we need to exploit.

I think SBW is a weakness on their own line. He too often commits to one player, no matter the movement of the ball or lateral spread of attackers. This will be Rochows job to get Sonny to commit to him by running his line. (Rochow has the guts to get belted three or four times) Tyrone then has the abiility to set up a try if he takes the right option whether it'd be a show and go or ball to Boyd/Leulia (or even the cut out to McManus he's shown a couple of times) We should be hitting 4 on 3 situations regularly if we bunch the roosters middle third before hand with some hard running.

I honestly feel a lot of our tape work this week will be analyzing how to break down the Roosters left edge and it is where we will heavily target during the game. I'd expect a Mullen reverse grubber/chip to lead to a try too if we should try it. When he is mid field set for a cross field to Uate, skew it off the outside of the boot to put it into the in goal infront of Leulia and McManus.

SBW is a dog c***, protected species. Shoulders and swinging arms to the head galore all season. I don't care what anyone on here thinks of me, i'd love to see McKinnon bullrush him head on and fracture his jaw with a legal headclash.

It would be sweet justice for the thug.

I agree RABK with taking any points the Roosters give us on a platter. After we go up 4-6 nil on goals from ruck penalities they will get the idea. Frankly their attack against Manly given the amount of ball they had was less than stellar. They are scared by our momentum. We are very dangerous on the edges and I would love to see Mullo throw a short ball to Beau running a hard straight line on the right while faking a cutout pass, bringing Jennings in off his line. We all know his intercept killed us at HS. Akuila and Gagai really need to work Jenko over. Willie will be into Pearce all night. Take it as read. Sledgeathon. IN fairness to Jenko he is a brilliant player. The best centre in the game. His defence this year has been awesome.

Totally agree. Mason getting sweet revenge on the grub would be even better (legally of course).
