Dolly Parton may have famously suggested that 'working nine to five' was a way to make a living; but for Newtown Jets forward Andrew Pearn, the pursuit of success means a delicate juggling act between his love of Rugby League and his love of teaching.

Having juggled the demands of playing Rugby League and teaching for seven of his nine years as a VB NSW Cup player, Pearn believes his professions were always destined to cross paths.

"I originally got into teaching as a result of my love of sport from a young age, the influence of my PE teachers at school and my parents being actively involved in sports... so I guess it all just fell into place," said Pearn.

As a Secondary School teacher at Kingswood High School, Penrith, Pearn admits that despite his love of both professions, there can be many obstacles involved in the life of a full time worker and Rugby League player.

"It can be a little hard at times. Playing for Newtown and working in Penrith, even the commute can sometimes get you down.

"There are a lot of commitments in the life of a teacher that take place behind the scenes and after school like faculty meetings and committee meetings, so it's not just a nine-to-three job.

"You have to be able to switch between teacher mode and football mode so you don't take any of the stress from work into training or a game, but I love it."

Pearn's love of the game has also delivered him the Kingswood High School Senior Rugby League coaching role, and the Jets forward is adamant it's an avenue he is willing to explore.

"Football is also a great release from my day to day teaching role as Coach of the Senior team and also Sydney West.

"I wouldn't mind working my way towards being the NSW CHS or Australian Schoolboys Coach, but I'm only just starting out and really enjoying it."

After winning a Premiership with the Jets in 2012, Pearn believes the task of winning the VB NSW Cup is becoming harder each year.

"I've noticed a big change over the last few years with the VB NSW Cup becoming more physical and faster every year. It's really bridging the gap between second tier football and the NRL and it's in a much better position than it was a few years ago when it was hard for guys to make it back into the top grade after being dropped due the difference in quality in the grades."

Pearn will line up for the Jets this weekend when they take on the Illawarra Cutters at WIN Stadium on Saturday. Kick-Off at 3pm. If you can't make it to the match, our friends @Steelesport will be calling the match. Click here to listen

Are you saying that Davis had been offered a contract with Wentworthville? Or a full time Eels contract?

Surely Pene didn't get a full time contract?

No I'm saying he's been offered a wenty contract and penne will be contracted to wenty...but ofcourse as with all wenty contracted players they may become options at parra depending on injuries and form

So do you reckon any NRL clubs would have made offers to Davis? Otherwise I don't see why he would even consider signing with a State Cup club.

Odds are he doesn't kick on to first grade but I am glad we kept Pene. Plugged holes across the park for our NYC team this year and seemed to have a good motor.

Thanks Stagger. Who are the youngesters from central coast?
Jeez pearn's been around in the lower grades for years. I think he's played reserves for wests, roosters, cronulla and possibly souths? I hope Davis stays and develops his game in nsw cup for us.
