Sometimes zero but thats not what you said at the start of this convo...

You said we sign players to fill positions in junior rep teams.. no we dont we sign potential players and give them all the tools to go on.
No merkin, there aren’t enough players with NRL potential to fill 17 SG Ball teams, like I said. The clubs know this. So they sign as many as they can, and fill the rest of the squad with players who might play well at SG Ball level but will never play first grade. They know in advance who these guys are.
These kids come into a reps program as the best player in their side, when they come up against kids of the same calibre it is those that have the drive and determination that kick on.
Watch any SG Ball game. A handful of players are head and shoulders above the rest. Those are the ones with NRL potential. In our 2023 team it was Talagi, Sanders and Tuivaiti. In the current team it's Bloomfield, Bamblett, and Koina.

You where talking Rokasuka and that other centre up at the start of the season as deff first graders.

In the current team Fletcher,Petrus have first grade potential also. The club thinks Nunn does but I am not convinced.

Guys like Risati,Katarac and Davis I think are eligble for sg ball next year so thats a big difference also.

I would never say any SG Ball player is a definite first grader.

There's probables and possibles in any SG Ball squad. What separates them is probably their physical development for their age. But there would be fewer than ten of these in even the strongest SG Ball squad. Then after the possibles the rest of the squad (a dozen or more players) is kids who just lack the physical attributes. Too small or too slow or not enough natural aerobic capacity (as distinct from 'fitness'). They won't make it no matter how hard they try.

And obviously among the probables/possibles there's blokes who are amazing physical specimens, with shit attitudes, who keep getting chance after chance despite being late to training or talking back to their coaches, or general resistance to professionalism.

Anyway in our squad I would break it up like this. Bear in mind I'm not a pro footy scout so I don't any special insight from watching these guys:

Probables
Koina
Bloomfield
Fletcher
Bamblett

Possibles
Rokosuka
Howlett
Risati
Petrus
Talagi

I like Davis and Katarac also. Reality is only 2-4 will become NRL players. And there are better sg ball players around in other squads.
Time will tell I guess.

You reckon there is a chance the club would entertain the idea of bringing back Blaize? I would but only as a centre which is where he mostly played as a junior if I recall.
He played his whole Harold Matts career in the halves, then when he returned from injury into the SG Ball team he played centre. Then he played seven games of Flegg, the first three at five-eighth and the final four at centre.

The next year he started in reserve grade, playing fullback (3 games) and five-eighth (1 game). Obviously knew he could get more money in the spine and we tried to indulge him.

Why would Blaize want back in, seriously?

Even if he ends up doing a 4 week Cup stint at Penrith to work on his defence, it'll be worth it to him to stay there in the long run.
