I rate Mann very highly
Lose nightingale, lafai, host this week and bring in Mann,Milne and Kerr
Anyway if Mann does not get a run in first grade soon I hope he tells the club to shove their contract up their arse and move on and then cut us to pieces when we play against him
Then mcdildo with feel like a bigger goose than what he is

I wouldn't blame him if he left for another club with the way McDipshit has stuffed him around.
Feel sorry for the kid.

Relax boys... as 18th man he couldnt play NSW cup!!!
He wasnt omitted and left out unwanted!
This happening shows Mann he is next in line.
I agree with most he should be playing in the starting 13... but him being left out isnt the club showing him he isnt wanted.
Mary said that the #17 was between Mann and Field and Mary opted to play Field.
Mann was and is next in line.
Put the razors away for now... its not that bad.

I agree with everything above but feel it's time to chill out a bit . I think in this day and age it's inevitable that a back will get injured and then Mann or Milne will, return.

Something has happened or something has been said between Mary and Mann. I would not be surprise if Mann has indicated that he is fed up and ready to move on.

Being 18th man is a curse.
He will quickly lose condition and ability with no game time.
Marketo should be the permanent 18th man and we keep all the players in cotton wool on game day.

Not sure about that Possm but you maybe right.

I just think Mann is the proverbial square peg in a round hole. He's been annointed as a utility. So where does he fit.
Fullback: Dugan is the incumbent with Dufty his apprentice.
Wing: Once they signed McDonald that spot was always going to be filled. Nighty is the incumbent on the other.
Centre: With Aitken, Milne and now Lafai plus talk of Dugans move there.
5/8: Widdop the incumbent plus Field as the next in rhe queue.
7: Mcrone and Field seem to be in front
Bench: Probably his only spot but that would depend on structure and opposition.
So really unless theres injury or suspension ir complete form failure, Mann is that square peg that needs to be in the team but where?

If he's one of the 2 best halves (and there's an argument that he is), then he should be there.
If not, then if he is one of the 2 best centres (and there's an argument that he is) then he should be there.
If not, then in he in one of the 2 best wingers (and there's an argument that he is) then he should be there.

He's only a square peg because Mary doesnt know what shapes are what.

Just like in cricket selections alot of it has to do with work ethic and personality. Khawaja scored 1000 first class runs last year, averaged 63 in last series and got dropped. Marsh boys stay in the team because they are good for the group, they enjoy a can of vb after the game, khawaja doesn't drink.

I see the best spot for Mann being on the wing to replace nightingale but they will never drop nightingale this year, no way. Nightingale is a nice guy and club champion. Good for the group.

So Mann, like khawaja, will just have to sit on the sidelines until someone gets injured then score as man tries as he can, or runs in khawajas case. Then once the injured player is back in, Mann and khawaja will be back to the bench.

Its about personalities not skill.

Cool story. Picking people on personality has served us so well for so long. I mean, our coach who was hired on the basis of being passionate about the club and bleeding red and white has proven to be such a success so far. Much like all the other old boys in our system.

Same as NSW Origin team, picked so many players for so long on the basis that they are 'Origin players' and other such bullshit, keeping players who are superior at actually playing rugby league out of the team. I wonder if that strategy works for them.

In short, what is good for the group is winning. What is good for winning is having the best players in the best position. Bottom line.

As much as we like to bag out Mary for team selections (I was one of them), the proof is in the pudding. We won 42-10 against one of the favourites. So i guess his selections (for last week anyway) have been validated.

I agree we will likely be better with Mann and Milne in the side, but again our success will not be dependent on those 2. It will be dependant on our forwards winning the possession and field position battle which they should be able to do most weeks, and our key spine players delivering like they did against Penrith.

If we get this right, having Milne and Mann in the side (likely at the expense of Lafai and Nighty) won't make that big a difference.

Lafai actually looked alright on the weekend.

I remember Nightingale had to play reserve grade to allow big Del to play out his last year. Del was important to the teams self image - he brought them confidents. Although Nightingale was probably quicker and more likely to score at that stage of their careers.

Del even public said Nighty made a sacrifice for him by spending a year in reserves when he was certainly ready to play FG. Well Nighty seems to atleast be breaking even now by playing another year - in place of Mann (and other good players who are ready now).

The problem is we will loose a good player in Mann , how must he be feeling ?

I agree. He's spent two complete off seasons at the Dragons now, and has had to deal with adversity again. It would take its toll although he'd be telling himself to stay positive, work hard and believe in himself. Still the notion of justice and fairness might be under threat in his own mind. We all back his ability and look forward to see him get a place.

Regarding versatility being a curse, I'd say this is only true when the coach is indecisive. Too many options and can't choose.

Bennett would make a decision that he truly thought was good and then stick to it. He's demonstrated this many times.

Lets not go overboard on Kurt Mann. I also think that he is a good player but I don't think he is anything special. If he goes to another club then so be it. Plenty of Kurt Manns in the comp.

Left centre is his best position for us and that's where Bellamy played him. But Lafai had a decent game on the weekend and deserves to keep his spot. Mann will be the next player in if there are injuries or form issues.

The incorrect strategy in finding a spot for Mann would be, leaving him on the side like a Joker in a card deck and then placing him in a role that's missing from the card deck. Because if you have a full card deck, he remains on the side.

In sport players aren't cards, and, the person who holds the cards isn't a player, he's a coach. Mary thinks he is the player. He adopts a coach centred strategy not a player centred one.

Mann is no Joker either.

The NRL is more or less even with regards to the amount of talent in each club. The most important factor is getting the best out of the playing group and having the right game plan for them to be motivated and firing. If nightingale brings something to the group that Mann cannot then that will be more important than just matching like for like skills on the park.
What is good for winning is having the right attitude as a group.
