I don't get the Mann love in. As someone said earlier, there's plenty of players out there of his standard. Of all our outside backs, he has to be the lowest priority for retention.
Completely agree. I would love for him to get a chance at 5/8 but as an outside back, he is a fringe first grader. I believe the Mann love expressed here is a reflection of the inferiority complex a lot (not all) of Dragons supporters have vis-a-vis Melbourne.
Finished a few off that Nighty wouldn't have sadly.

I think you are probably right. I'm in favor of leaving them both out and having the standout (big. A smaller guy like Field on the wing will get smashed) outside back from the Cutters or U20s given a chance and have Nighty on the bench as an interchange utility.

Ironically, it isn't finding the line from close in that worries me about both Lafai and Nightingale. It's long range tries and in defence - Mary plan of a compressed defence - that worries me most.

I say if you are going to select a more experienced but noticeably slower winger, then make provisions for him to be successful. I suggest to have Nightingale stay out wide marking his opposite winger with Lafai sliding quickly towards him if the ball is spun wide. Also have Dugan be prepared to support left side defence as much as possible.

Can't agree on Nighty.

Nighty scored 6 tries in 24 games - 2016
5 tries in 22 games - 2015
16 tries in 22 games - 2014

Mann, last year 10 tries in 13 games (2 played at FB where he didn't score until he was dropped).

Nighty is a club legend, and won't score again from more than 15-20m out imo. Yes he'll do some other solid work and be a good leader.

Our wingers need to finish of more tries.

Just my opinion, admire the guy but.....
I'd like to see some stats on how many man of the match performances he has put in over those years.
I still think maybe nighty has some more to offer this season.
If however he isn't doing his job as well as others may then yes he should make way for them.

Don't think he played again this week either despite being on the bench and despite one of the worst performances by a starting half back that I have seen in a while.

Not to mention one of the worst right-centre performances we've seen in a long time...

Unless Nighty is dropped or we are hit with injuries, he is unlikely to see much NRL game time till rep season as Milne would replace Lafai and McDonald is more than safe for a while.

If the forwards are as fit as they appear, Mary says and the minutes they got through suggest, we may be able to afford a utility on the bench and he would come into contention then.

However, I fear the writing is on the wall. NSW Cup!

Their fitness isn't what let them down today.

69% completions and 43% possession = a f$ck tonne of errors and, as a result, a f$ck tonne of defence.

I don't think they could've caught a bloody cold today...the handling was so poor.

Frustrating.

It's even more frustrating when you're playing conservative one out football and you're dropping the ball like that. It's was awful.

If Mann is not selected this week as a run on player in FG or Illawarra then you have to say his card is marked. He's played ten minutes of football since the season started and would be falling behind with match fitness each week. But then again it seems to be the MO of supercoach where he f**ks players around continually, e.g. Havili

Thats exactly what Mc Gregor thinks.

The stats support Mann. Just looking at him physically he doesn't look that special, but if there are plenty of other players out there of his calibre (and there may be) none of them play for the Dragons FG team.
