I was hoping to see Mann given a shot at centre, wing or full back at the beginning of last season.

He was largely used from the bench until injuries set in.

Mann was used as a stop gap middle defender, as a half.

He was never really given a run of games to cement a spot as a wing, centre or full back.

Don't understand why he would sign another contract whilst Mary is coach.

We signed Pearson, the fijian flyer as well as young Saab. Pereira has been given a 2 year contract. Zac Lomax could also contend for a wing spot.

Aitken and Lafai have been continually selected in front of him. Zac Lomax is now a serious contender for a centre spot.

When Dufty faltered in the second half of the season, Mann wasn't given a chance to play a string of games at full back to improve our defence. So he isn't in the running to be selected at full back.

We have a bucket load of young forwards who will compete for bench spots including Lovadua and Reece Robson.

Looks to me he is now a victim of his own versatility.

Will he stay ?

Yes- he has been crucified by SGI and I would not blame him for leaving- While Graham is the heart and soul of our forwards, I believe Mann fills that role for the backs- when Melbourne ran up 50 on us, he was one of the few who was effective in defence and tried right till the end. I'd give him a starting centre spot with Lomax next season-or Lafai if the Hayne plane diverts to another destination (as I hope it does) and Lomax goes to full back.

I didn't mind him in that role but we should be getting Reece Robson through in that position.

Unless Mann is going to be considered for fullback, he's pretty much gone.

I agree, Robson should be on the bench from round 1 on in 2019.

Any clubs out there need a couple seasoned centres? Aitken and Lafai could add depth to your roster - on Sale now for this month only.

That would be real smart wouldn't it we lose 2 experienced players in our backline and you say get rid of our established centers who last year got us to within 2 games of a premiership when theirs no one on the market to replace them and you reckon Duffy is to inexperienced you must think hayne is jesus christ

Aitken and Lafai did not contribute much to our success. We got there mainly through our forwards and halves with help from Dufty and Macdonald. Pereira was a good workman on the wing. Losing Aitken and Lafai gives Lomax and Mann the opportunity to cement a place in the centres. The money saved could allow Millward to recruit two good backs - a fullback and a top grade winger.

You are right to a certain point mate but I would love to see aitken play left centre all his mates tell me that is his natural side and has no trouble passing right to left he even palms with his right hand hence why he always steps in any way cheers mate love your posts

I think Aitken should trial there, though it looks like only one game at the moment.

Main issue has been that Lafai struggled on the right side at Canterbury and wanted to play on the left.

They will likely wait and see what happens next with the progression on the younger outside backs. Aitken especially needs to be adaptable.

I wouldn't be moving Aitkin or Lafai for Mann.

Hope he stays with the club as it is important to use him in the same roll as this year and can get an upgrade as I don't think there is anyone else in the club that can take his position.

Too expensive to get rid of I'm afraid. With 2 years still to go on their contracts, I'd be sending them to ISP after which they would most probably seek a release with no cost to SGI.
And why does not happen more often. That's right the club and player managers say you cant play a high salaried player in reserves. That is baloney. What is wrong going back a grade to get 1st grade form back.
I just still cant come to grips with the NRL pathways system and the way it is administered or lack there of and they dont give 2 flying ducks about lower grades. What the hell in this state do we has a NSWRL admin and what do they do? Sorry..high horse off the beaten track rant over

So now that Hayne appears dead in the water, I am guessing the reason Joe Lovadua feels he is a chance of scoring the bench utility role is because Mann will be released to the Knights.

What do you think?

But your are quite correct.
The day they stopped playing the three grades together, the nrl went backwards, which started the gap in quality from firsts to second and third grades.

The lower grades need to be playing in front of the crowds every week.

Use to loveit when a player from third grade, after playing a blinder, would come on in seconds or first grade, late in the game and maybe score a try or kick a goal.

Ahhhh, those were the days!

I just think he's being realistic. If he is going to play first grade that would be the way he gets a chance. Probably needs to make the full squad first (might still be a development player)

The reason for cutting out reserve grade and third grade was that the State competitions were floundering and needed higher quality players. So bring back reserve grade and have them run on just before the main game. Also have ISP and one Jersey Flegg play at the alternative home ground on a different day in order to spread the love.

Why does anyone with a brain want us to have a bench utility let alone be the bench utility?
What about a bench player who is a specialist in a position and at a pinch play another position due to an injury to someone else?
Love Me Do ahead of the likes of Robson or Host is plain insanity.
