Minus 100 yeah with Young as defence coach.
The head coach is flano full stop
The buck stops with him
If he thinks Deano is not doing his job he should sack him
Now you need to read my post
I did not say don’t sign flano
I am Clearly saying if you bothered to read my post (instead of seeing saintmar and assuming I am anti flanno as some on here allude to ), that he has not yet earned an extension
We were mediocre last year and finished BELOW hooks achievments of 2022
That's no major achievement
Our pd was shit - 100 that’s a FACT
All i am saying is just wait and see how we go before we give an extension
If we improve to a top 6 and above then give him an extension
Flano has his team now so it’s time to produce the results
We should not be making excuses anymore
It’s now or never
What possible Excuses can we accept if we fail this year ?
If you remember when he signed he wrote off 2024 (which I thought was real strange at the time) but promised 2025 will be a different story
I fail to see why we should not be demanding to make the top 6 In 2025
That is not success that is still just a bit above average
Penrith supporters would be hysterical with laughter at the acceptance of such mediocre results by people on this forum
Seriously do you people ever want to WiN the comp?
You only breed success by making people hungry to succeed
You give Flano an extension now and it sends the wrong signal, just like it did with the Mary extensions.

I think I’ve gotten to the state that I likely see your name and think that too 😂

but most of what say seems fine, and you constructed a good response, so here’s my thoughts

1) flip flopping between coaches means constant rebuilding and problems. The change from Mary to hook and hook to Flanno are classic examples. Coaches shouldn’t be signed unless you’re willing to give them time to really show their worth. For this reason I’m a little slower than some to call for changes (though maybe not with hook)
2) I don’t and didn’t expect a coach to come in and turn our rabble into premiers in 1 or 2 years. I need to buy into the dream though. Which means I need to see positive changes.
3) like many, I’m really excited by Flanno. Your statement on points differential and position are correct, but I think most of us look past this. We have seen what feels like a proper rebuild. We see the players getting fit and talking better about the club, we see changes in personnel that are positive. We hear more news and see positive changes.
4) if the alternatives were much better, I could understand signing a coach like Bellamy or Bennet prematurely, but we have a proven coach and there is nobody close in the open market. He shows all the signs and it’s time to bank on him!
anyway, that’s my 2cents

A very good 2 cents worth SnowDragon.

Really ignorant comment. Might be good to have a closer look at how those moves happened.
Was poached by the Roosters from the Sharks - they must have seen something in him.
Then made the scapegoat at the Roosters because they failed to make a grand final. Didn't really do much wrong if you go back and watch the games. Wobbo needs someone to blame when his one dimensional coaching and his salary cap stretching roster fails.
Was picked up by the Bulldogs with a terrible roster and was made the scapegoat again for a club that at that stage was rivalling the Dragons and Tigers for braindead coaching, recruiting and roster decisions. Had his confidence literally crushed by a coach who decided it was the halfback's fault for the terrible way the rest of the team was playing.
Came to the Dragons for a fresh start and has been solid all year. His father isn't dumb enough to keep his son in the squad just because he's his son. He sees a role for him in the 17 for the next few years. That's good enough for me.
Nah wouldn't say it's an ignorant comment....more an opinion that doesn't happen to concur with yours. I've watched Kyle pretty closely over the years considering he was a Sharks junior. He's not hopeless but I feel he's a bit lacking in creativity. Too many inside balls which basically just gives the defensive line a breather and time to reset. Reminds me a lot of Chad who is also reasonably lacking in creativity. Kyle did start taking on the line a bit more last year and his short kicking game improved a bit but an output of 4 try assists and 6 line break assists for a whole season isn't great tbh for a half. Flanno senior is is trying to strengthen his squad and has done so with Gutho...Cook and Val. I would have thought upgrading the halves would have been a priority. Unfortunately thats where the conflict of interest comes in as his dad. Probably should have let it ride for half the season rather than comitting to another 2 years now. Not like there would be any other clubs fighting for his signature.

Got to remember JNR was also carrying the wobbly lip of “that” QLD “so called” captain of 2024.
Oddly he was suspended for the last 4? Week of this past season and games after we were no where with our hi-paid captain in pretence.
So with a real man captain now on board and a real halfback keen to prove themselves I think 2025 will see some real progress with JNR. And if he fells well with Ilias we could have so great on-field diversity.

Which leaves the question 2026 with Atkinson on board - 2 hookers 3 or 4 halves.
Hmm the math I see doesn’t calculate right.

You do realise that we had 6 more wins then 2023 we were tipped for the spoon & lost a spot in the eight with 2 rounds to go. This club has been a basket case for years & success won’t happen overnight we have the right coach for once he needs support from the board he needs a minimum of 5 years which is what Ryles wanted to begin with.

1. We did upgrade the halves. That is why we booted the long-unsuccessful Hunt and are bringing in DA. And note that good halves don't grow on trees. Flanno did well to get DA, who is direct competition for his son.

2. If there were a conflict of interest wrt the halves, Flanno would not have brought in Ilias nor would he be promoting King-Toghia, whom he had as 18th man from August.

3. If Flanno were protecting Kyle from competition above the interests of the club, he would not have brought in Cook, and kept Liddle.

The FACTS are that Flanno has brought in MORE competition for his son and made his position in the team LESS secure.

How is that nepotism?

1. The "long unsuccessful" Hunt had 30 try assists and 17 line-break assists last year. In fact led the competition for try assists.
2. Yes Flanno did well to get Atko to the club but it was the promise of a starting spot and 500k a season that swayed him. Sharks offered him 320 K and could only guarantee him a regular spot in the 17. No brainer for the kid and good luck to him.
3. My point was that Kyle was very fortunate to be extended for a further 2 years at this point. The smart play would have been to see how he goes for a dozen of so games before committing to him for the next 3 years.
4. Been nice talking with you Shane...all the best for the upcoming season hey.

He also took approximately 95% of all possessions

It’s natural that he would have had 30 try assists.

Reality sometimes the stats lie. He made the side very predictable.

Good cover for halves and 9, will improve on last year, there to serve the system, plays with passion, wants to be a dragon. Can't complain.
