The BOD took soooo long to get the recruitment manager and CEO on board. Surely they have to assume much of the responsibility for this season. I guess Flanno needs to take responsibility for match selections.

I only hope that management at least replaces the assistant coaches so we can have a fresh start. And if the new recruitment manager can sign us two marquee spine members and one marquee prop, we should be very competitive in 2026.

Boards don’t usually hire Recruitment Managers! They may sign off budgets and rubber stamp etc but I think it would fall into the Football Team’s Management Team hierarchy’s responsibility to hire and onboard. Maybe questions should be asked elsewhere ….

Meanwhile, Flanno gets flamed by certain media people for not playing 2 reserve halves who are not contracted with Dragons next year, over 2 halves who are contracted for next year.

It wouldn't be the first time a brilliant player was promoted to first grade at his age. The problem we have at out club is that we do not have people who can make such decisions. We lose too many juniors purely because their talent is not identified and because they are not promoted/extended/locked in.

In the case of Reed, I say let go Ilias, Glover, and have:
Reserve grade
6. LKT
7. Reed - 5 year deal

First Grade
6. Atkinson
7. A marquee halfback (new signing)

I also believe we didn't actually seek out Illias. He became a free agent and we recruited him to provide options rather than a solution. Just looking up what he was worth, it's suspected he was on $500k at Souths and I reckon we've got him for cheaper than that.

'I don't cop that': Anasta's shot at Dragons over Ilias treatment​

The Dragons have already indicated that a change in the playmaking stocks will be on the cards next season.

Earlier this week, the club hired former NRL coach Daniel Anderson to be the club's head of recruitment.

He will be charged with a roster overhaul that will include scrutiny on the halves after candid comments from Dragons CEO Tim Watsford, who said earlier this month that Flanagan would not be the club's halfback next season.

"Kyle was brought in as a 14 or utility to play a role," Watsford said.

"At the time, we had two halves in Benny Hunt and Junior Amone. That was where the club was heading.

"At the end of last year, we signed Daniel Atkinson from the Sharks and he will come in and play half in 2026.

"Kyle is there fulfilling a role for 2025 and fulfilling it well. Now, we're in the market and we'll be in the market for a marquee halfback."
