Yes and these days when you do good for players by improving their fitness after injury or assist them back into the game after trouble, it is as if that is what you suppose to do. No loyalty when it comes to the end of a contract. No thought that without the Dragons very big heart, you would probably be out of the game earning 60k p/a instead of playing in the NRL for 400k - 750k p/a.
I also think its up to the club to have a more effective strategy to keep our good players.

However, if another club is short of a good centre and they offer 100k more a year, its a tough gig for any recruitment manager.

Perhaps the club can focus more on building a more effective and REAL
post football strategy for our players, making it very difficult for our good players to walk away, knowing they will have a bright future post football with us.

Gareth that sounds sweet , COME SEMI FINAL TIME .......

Yes , it was a nice touch . :relaxed: However should the boys continue to play for each other in the manner of late , I believe that the Dragons will be there . Still a tough road ahead , as you know , there are no any easy games any more , but the team spirit is wonderful and that is what I think will get the boys over the line .

I always knew Lafai was a good player but I honestly believed that we bought him busted and towards the end of last season I didn't think he was going to get any better. How wrong I was, and how happy I am to be wrong. Not sure he deserved to play so much first grade last season, but to be fair Mary has got it 100% right in showing faith in Lafai this season.

Would have thought we could have got this deal done this week, bye round, no lafai in SOO... why the delays
Dare I say it, Millward is not up to the job. He can accommodate the easy deals but is lost with the difficult ones. His initial move was to sign juniors, then retain our forward pack - less Packer, then retain Aitken - less Mann, Lafai and Milne. Everyting done upside down.

If the Club had no faith in Dugan, Packer, Lafai, Mann and Milne then whoever makes these decisions got it awfully wrong because all of the above have improved and played well in 2017.

I hope we retain Lafai, Mann and Milne mainly because they are quality first graders even if a couple of these players are kept as competition for more favoured options, Aitken, Field etc.

Other Clubs quickly retain the players they want and leave the players they don't need as the last to retain or let go. For example the Raiders retained all of the players they wanted to keep and we picked up Paul Vaughan, a player they did not want to retain.

We first sign juniors and 3 new recruits and then spend months holding off on our first graders while we wait for Dugan and Packer to tell us they are moving on. If players don't come to terms within a month, surely we should have at least have a B option and continue on to sign the players we want to keep.

You not the only one who was wrong.
I also was bagging him and wishing we would get rid of him.
How wrong was I.
Now I see him as a priority signing and at the top of his game.

Lafai & Mann not linked to any team which is strange. If they were looking elsewhere they would be snapped up. Something must be happening in the background surely.

If they get no bites from other clubs, Saints have more of a bargaining tool to retain them and may not have to offer them big coin to stay. They can see what their true worth is that way.

Mann is being looked at by the ESL only so that may also sway him to stay on the cheap.

Anyone know what both are on?

Sammy , I have to make this quick ( Ethel is calling me and she is not too happy either ) , but , Recruitment had better not stuff this signing up , like they did with the others , or I will be truly pussed-offed !

Yes but when Mary get's it wrong he's shit and must be sacked immediately....but when he get's it right it's just the team playing on talent and nothing to do with Mary......

Mary was one of the best centres going around when he was playing so he might know a thing or 2 about that position. Maybe a coincidence why Lafai has improved with a full pre-season under his belt with no injury.

They were talking him up before the season started and said he was training the house down. Know we can see the benefits and reason why he got the nod ahead of Mann and Milne.

Yep, also have Matt Cooper and Mark Coyne hanging around to offer some centre wisdom as well. Can only hope they turn their collective attention to Aitken and impart some of that wisdom on him if they are going to persist with him as our starting centre long term.
