The club was stunned by news a fortnight ago that Thompson was thinking of sitting out the start of the season because he was struggling to cope with a divorce.
The revelation came as five-eighth Trent Barrett re-signed with St George Illawarra on a lucrative, long-term contract.
Thompson took a big pay cut last year to help the Dragons get under the salary cap and there has been talk that he was upset Barrett had received such a good deal.
That led to further suggestions that Thompson was offside with coach Nathan Brown and some of his teammates for heading off under those circumstances.
Brown made it clear he was angry with Thompson by how he answered a question about the player at a media conference to promote the Charity Shield game against South Sydney during the week.
I think the issue is really whether or not a Q&A took place. My presumption is that it sounds like the author was hanging out for the slightest indication of negative vibe. It doesnt matter if it wasnt worth repeating... because he doesnt have to repeat it anyway. He just has to make it read like its something controversial.ShireShark said:Well does anyone know what the actual Q&A was?
