I was just wondering if any of you guys think if Lance Thompson will be back in time for the season kick off, I reckon he will be.

Was reading this on the SMH website

The club was stunned by news a fortnight ago that Thompson was thinking of sitting out the start of the season because he was struggling to cope with a divorce.

The revelation came as five-eighth Trent Barrett re-signed with St George Illawarra on a lucrative, long-term contract.

Thompson took a big pay cut last year to help the Dragons get under the salary cap and there has been talk that he was upset Barrett had received such a good deal.

That led to further suggestions that Thompson was offside with coach Nathan Brown and some of his teammates for heading off under those circumstances.

Brown made it clear he was angry with Thompson by how he answered a question about the player at a media conference to promote the Charity Shield game against South Sydney during the week.

Intrigued to know, what was the question and answer? Can anyone shed any light on that?

It is a SMH - a paper which often paints RL in a bad light.
Words like: 'revelation', 'there has been talk', 'suggestions', 'made it clear', 'about the player'... all the stuff of rumour. It gives an impression without having to say anything at all.

I'm sure if it was said at a media conference to promote the Charity Shield, then we would all have heard about it by now.

The media wonder why they are bundled with used car salesmen as the least respected people on earth.

Challenge to the SMH, if something was said at a media conference, then print it !!!

Otherwise stop the rumour-mongering!

Well does anyone know what the actual Q&A was?

I think the issue is really whether or not a Q&A took place. My presumption is that it sounds like the author was hanging out for the slightest indication of negative vibe. It doesnt matter if it wasnt worth repeating... because he doesnt have to repeat it anyway. He just has to make it read like its something controversial.

When Thommo offered to take the pay cut ,it showed he was a Dragon through and through.I have big respect for the guy and wish we could see more team loyalty in all sports,but there aren,t many sportsmen with Thommos integrity.
