Adelaide done something similar against StGeorge many years ago. It was all over the media for the next week, Dragons were complaining that it was cheating and against the spirit of the game, think they were also asking for 2 competition points.
Benji Marshall did that a couple years ago. Can't recall the opposition. I was waiting to see whether he would stuff up and drop the ball, leading to the match-winning try.

Some Dragon's fans feel the result should be Dragons win, Storm dudded rather than Dragons lose, both teams dudded. Seems like a fair, well thought out and balanced solution.

I think the possibility of Hoffman being on the field illegally is a far bigger issue.

IF he was, then Melbourne should be stripped of their points, considering Dragons had a player missing due to the rule, & Hoffman threw the winning pass.

Unfortunately I can't see a way for the Dragons to get the points (even though they deserve them!) It would set a precedent of legal appeals based on refs interpretations (ie, Eels vs Dragons a few years back where Drags scored late off a mile forward pass?). If the refs screw it up, they screw it up.

But I agree - if Melbourne have flaunted the concussion rule, then strip the points from Melbourne. It's a joke that they can cheat and get away with it - especially considering the Dogs got hammered for flaunting the rules previously - time to ramp up the punishment and deny competition points for it.

I still haven't worked this out, they are meant to get a free substitution to get the player off then a free one to get the player back on, how did they end up a player short? Is it a case of the Dragons mismanagement of the free interchange or is it a problem with the rules?

But thry haven't flaunted it. They took him off the field, performed the tests which he passed and allowed him to return to the field. Bulldogs have got hammered for not taking Jackson from the field in the first place

They took the player off the field with a free interchange and if the player is able to come back on it is also a free interchange. If the player is unable to return to the field, the first interchange then becomes counted as an interchange. The Dragons in the 15 minute window used up the last of their interchanges so when Thompson was unable to return, they had to take a player off otherwise it would be the 11th interchange.

The Dragons gambled that there would be less than 1 minute of stoppages in the final 14 minutes of the match and used up all their interchanges. When Thompson was unable to return they had to take a player off. It was poor planning by the Dragons and not a problem with the rule IMO.

Well then fair enough!

I don't think that there are many teams that would keep a spare interchange up their sleeve for the last few minutes of play just in case.

Game time has no bearing on how long it takes to asses a player in the dressing room

While I completely agree with you, a player also doesn't require the full 15 minutes to be assessed.

The rule is based on a 15 minute period, one might reasonably expect that to correlate to 'game time' - one might also expect the same thing with sin binnings!

Oh well - if that's the way it is, then that is the way it is - and everyone knew that in advance (not me - but the Drags should've)

If your team eg.dragqueens, eels, chooks had the ball do you think your team would have just stopped playing if the ref had not blown the whistle? your teams would have played on exactly like Storm had a right to do.
END OF..

Certainly NOT UNCOMFORTABLE about winning a game. but everyone on here is acting like they would disagree if their own team had won in that style but I know you all would be happy if your team won.
