Seems like de ja vu. Talking about how someone named Witt has left Parra with some fans blowing-up at the prospect of another potentially great junior lost forever.....can anyone tell me how that other bloke went and how many times he came back to haunt us this year?! It's not how much opportunity that M.Witt got that is the issue, it's what he did with it that is the significant factor; and quite frankly it wasn't that impressive. If players follow game-plans then the only point of conjecture after a loss is with the coach. Even Hindy was lamenting the inability of the side to do such during the season and the HB is the lynchpin to a successful game-plan being followed. Witt has his own ideas of how to play and they should be great at a club like Manly where the coach has less clue than the players!

Dux,

U nailed it mate. Witt was not impressive at all. i don't deny that he has a good kicking game but he doesn't lead the team, he can't organise the team and he can't read the play and his running game is non existant.

   Dux. The skills of a playmaker are natural. Turning u them into one doesnt work. Look at Johns that bloke can read the plays perfectly and is always be a step against his opposition and hence usually takes the right option. Witt continually is lost throughout the game and 5th tackle options are poor on a regular basis. I understand why Smith didnt play him becuase he has a long way to go before he cuts it. Will be intresting to see how he goes at Manly. I also think that you cant base your game on Witts kicking game. Sure its good but he needs a larger range of tricks.

We've got PJ coming back, plus a couple of great young halves, most nobatly Tim Smith.

Can't play them all and keep them all, so who goes?

In my view, the form Tim Smith showed in premier league was on occasions head and shoulders above what Michael Witt showed in the same competition this year, ok so smith hasnt played first grade this year, and witt has, but apart three precision kicks vs the roosters, what has he done, where other young halves of his age and experience seem willing to take the match by the scurff of the neck and have a go, witt doesn't....whats that....thats because brian smith has drained him of confidence? rubbish, if witt isnt made of stern ebough stuff to go out and prove smith wrong, then he'll never be anybody.

It all comes down to Natural talent as a half and Witt doesn't have it and Brian Smith was right to let him go.

Tim Smith has got the game to go all the way. Both his passing and kicking game are extremely good. His running game could use some work though. His defence is ok as well. But its is passing game which is excellent and Don't like making comparisons as each player is an individual but Ricky Stuart comes to mind.

I think I've asked this before but can you compare Tim in build to another halfback?

Looking at last years annual report he looks short and stockyish...a bit like Orford??

He isnt really short but yeah a bit stockish. His about average height. Him playin in 1st grade gives me a real buzz, he is bounds above the Skill which Witt had at the same time of his career. Yeh his about the same as Orford. :D . Why spend 400000 on Orford when we got Smith

If in "nippy" you mean really agile no. His passing and kicking game is yards ahead of Witt but his running game which makes Orford such a good player will needed to be worked on. But he will and has developed nicely.

well i hope Tim Smith (and or Blake Green) is as good as everyone says he is???

and if he is i hope he isn't shipped off after a year or two..... ;-)

even though i think PJ will (and should) be given first crack at halfback.....

If you have watched and been dedicated to the lower grades you would have seen that Green and Smith are both very worthy of shots. If PJ is our 7 who do you suggest is our replacement for Riddell?

Crap. Hasler is an ordinary coach as his his new acquisition. I cannot see the Kiwi now coming to Parra. He will be offerred a motza to go to England and Witt's money would have been no more then about $120,000 tops. I am so happy for Tim Smith he really has a chance to shine next year, despite PJ probably having the first shot at 7.

Hasler is poor. Cant see him doing anything with Witt. His was just a slot in for our club. He couldnt win us premierships with only a good kicking game. But in hindsight I cant see Leulaui coming now. I really dont want him to. But if PJ comes in as our #7 players will again be forced to play out of position. Smith was pretty horrible playing 2nd fiddle to Thorman so cant see that changing anytime soon. I still think Marsh needs to be played off the bench. Ive lost count of the games where he changed the course of the games with his impact off the bench. I still would like to see this line up.
6 Morris/Perenara
7 Smith
9 Riddell
14 Marsh
That undoubtably would be the strongest we could field. If Perenara is all he is meant to be he would be my choice over Morris. If Smith has his way and chooses PJ as our half expect thing
6 Morris
7 Marsh
9 Riddell
14 ???
I cant wait to see our first chosen squad. :D
